Friday 4-H Nugget

Greetings 4-H Community,

This will be our last Friday 4-H Nugget of 2022! Where has the year gone? It seems like yesterday we started the new year with a flurry of 4-H activities from workshops, trainings, and 4-H club meetings, to the 4-H fair, state fair and club year-end celebrations! Lots of changes have happened over the past year to improve the program and engagement with project updates, changing guidelines, and GooseChase.

In January all 4-H members in a livestock club will also receive information about changes to the Quality Assurance program requirement. We are moving to a new program called Indiana 4-H Quality Livestock Care for in-person trainings. Members can still complete YQCA online, but we see the need for a different in-person program to better fit the needs of our livestock youth.

As we are already in the middle of enrollment season and 4-H program year we have included many different activities for you and updates in this edition. Please take some time to look over and get involved in an activity or two. Be sure to talk to your friends and create a 4-H Tech Changemakers team! We will be looking for a volunteer to lead this effort. If you are interested please reach out to Robby.

All the best,

Robby Kelly & Sthele Greybar

Indiana 4-H Policies and Procedures

In an effort to be transparent and informative, Purdue Extension has made available many of our policies and procedures on the public facing Indiana 4-H website.

Many of times this is where the Educators will site information from or need to reference when we get asked questions. We would encourage you to look over them. This doesn't replace our county policies and procedures but it does go along with them. Be sure to reach out if you have any questions.

Day at the Statehouse

Join Indiana 4-H’ers in 7th-12th grade on February 7 on a trip to the Indiana Statehouse! Learn about your state government through a day full of civic engagement and leadership opportunities.

Participants will tour the state house, meet representatives, and have the opportunity to serve as student pages! For more information, contact your Extension Educator and/or register for this event via 4HOnline. Registration ends January 15!

Here is a story written by a 4-H'er who attended last year.

"Thrivers" Book Club for 4-H Volunteers/Adults

4-H Tech Changemakers!

Attention 8th-11th grade youth! The 4-H Tech Changemakers program helps bridge the gap in technology literacy by training and equipping teens to bring digital literacy skills to their communities through providing education and tools to adults. While being familiar with different types of technology is beneficial for team members, you do not need to be proficient in all types of technology to participate.

What do you need?

A team of 3-5 youth in grades 8-11 and an adult that is willing to work alongside your team! Training will be on January 14 in Indy.

What can you expect from this training?

Teams and their adult volunteer will spend the day learning about digital inclusion, digital literacy, creating a community profile, and tools for collaborating with your community. Examples of lessons that teams will go home with that day include “Responsible Behaviors on the Internet,” “Searching for Digital Information,” “Strong Passwords” and more! Participants will also receive a 4-H Tech Changemakers t-shirt and swag.

4-H Volunteer Reminders

Just a few reminders for our 4-H Volunteers. This week we mailed out a few things for you to note:

  • Yearly Financial and Club Activities Report
  • Notification if your club is up for a financial review.

A few people have also asked about the 990 Postcard that you fill out every year for the IRS. Those instructions will be emailed out in February.

Also don't forget to complete your 2022/2023 4-H Volunteer enrollment and trainings. Our last face-to-face training will be on Thursday, January 19, at 6:00 PM in the Fair Board Room.
