Winston's 2025 Talent Show 🎸🎤💃🏽

The Winston School was bursting with energy, creativity, and courage as our students took center stage for this year’s Talent Show yesterday.

From soulful singing and acoustic guitar solos to dynamic dance and cosplay performances, our students captivated the audience with their passion and talent.

We’re deeply proud of our performers for sharing their gifts, of our dedicated faculty and staff for their guidance and support, and of the families whose cheers and presence made the event truly special.

WASC Feedback

In this week’s newsletter, we are focusing on WASC feedback to Section B: Curriculum

Here is an excerpt from the report:

The Winston School’s relevant standards-based curriculum positively impacts student learning and well-being. Many students are provided with a challenging, but doable, curriculum through scaffolds and differentiation.

The Winston School is working to develop shared understanding, and implement of, a rigorous, relevant, and coherent standards-based curriculum across all courses and classes. The rigor, depth, and complexity of those standards-based learner outcomes should be linked to student achievement of the schoolwide learner goals, academic standards, and the college and career readiness indicators in order to meet graduation requirements.

The equitable and accessible curriculum at TWS impacts student learning and well-being by ensuring students feel safe and comfortable. The school community provides opportunities for students to garner support and feel confident in their progress throughout school. It is clear in conversations with students that they feel safe, valued, and important as members of the TWS community. Further, students named that they feel included and that they have the support they need to be successful in school and beyond.

Most students are able to make appropriate choices and pursue a full range of realistic college and career and/or other educational options within Winston’s curriculum, which includes real world applications. Students have a variety of choices and opportunities to engage in curriculum and learning that goes beyond the content in classrooms.

Areas of Strength

● Use of Schoology, PowerSchool, and Class Dojo provides access to materials, a platform for teachers to create courses and provide feedback to students, as well as an opportunity for parent engagement.

● There are extracurricular activities and various options for engagement for students (field trips, clubs, activities, electives, sports) beyond the classroom.

Areas of Growth

● Universal Design for Learning (UDL) has been introduced to some teachers. UDL will ultimately provide a framework for an equitable and accessible curriculum; alongside lesson design and instructional design that provides individual support to meet students’ needs.

● Teachers will continue to refine and collaborate on vertical alignment across grade levels, including planning for cross-curricular lessons.

● Winston would like to embed the ESLR program into college and career readiness goals.
