Thank you to all the families who joined us for Back to School Night! It was wonderful to welcome everyone and to celebrate the Winston School community together. For those who couldn’t attend, here’s a summary of the opening comments. Please reach out to your student’s teachers directly if you would like more information on a specific class.
Welcome to Back-to-School Night
Back-to-School Night is a wonderful opportunity to meet your student’s teachers, experience their daily schedule, and get a better understanding of the programs and opportunities available at Winston School. It’s also a chance to learn how you can become more involved in our community.
Our Goals for the Year
Winston School is truly a special place. What makes us so special is the focus we place on student growth and the partnership we have with our families. We treasure the time we have with your students as they learn, grow, build confidence, and work toward reaching their highest potential. Every day here matters.
We are proud to offer a robust program specifically designed around the needs of our students. Our teachers are special education credentialed, we provide embedded services, and our activities are tailored to our students’ unique needs and interests. From field trips and on-site programs to college and career support, prom, and so much more, we work hard to create opportunities that prepare our students for life beyond Winston. There truly is nowhere else in San Diego quite like us.
Construction Update
We are almost halfway there! Our goal is to have our new spaces ready to open for the second semester, beginning January 5. This project is about providing our students, families, and staff with the campus they deserve. Including air conditioning in all rooms!
The new spaces will create exciting opportunities for our students. Our new auditorium, for example, will allow us to expand opportunities in theater, music, and other programs. None of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our donors. Of the $7.5 million total project budget, we still need to raise $2 million to complete the project. The generous support we have received from alumni parents is especially meaningful and a wonderful confirmation of their belief in the long-term impact and success of a Winston education.
We need your help to finish this campaign and complete the final phase of construction. The sooner we can reach our goal, the sooner our students can benefit from these modern facilities. Nights like Back to School Night remind us just how important it is to have a campus that fully supports the needs of our students.
If you’d like to learn more about how you can help us reach this goal, please come see me or reach out anytime. We are incredibly grateful for your partnership and support.
~ Kim Kanetis, Executive Director
We have a wonderful staff this year and are looking forward to supporting students' growth academically, socially, and through building executive functioning skills through our advisory classes. In these classes, students have constant contact and support with their case manager.
Reminders/Announcements
As a reminder, Winston Corner has limited options, with both food for purchase and free food options available.

Also, we will be coordinating regional meet-ups this year to help you meet more families who live near you in the county. Thank you to everyone for putting your dot on the map and meeting other families that live near you!
