As we close our first marking period, I want to thank our students, families, and staff for a strong start to the school year.

Our advisory program continues to provide students with time to build important skills, connect with peers and trusted adults, and plan for their futures. In August, students focused on the executive-function skill of planning, including organizing responsibilities and managing time. In September, we are focusing on task initiation using strategies to get started, overcome procrastination, and take productive next steps.

Friday advisory periods alternate between fun team-building activities and social-emotional learning lessons led by our counseling staff. Each week, students also use SchooLinks to explore their interests and begin considering options for life after high school.

Through regular conversations with advisors, students are developing skills to manage their day-to-day responsibilities while setting meaningful personal, academic, and future goals.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support. We are looking forward to Marking Period 2 and the fall season ahead!

Ms. Nina, our Occupational Therapist and College & Career Counselor, has coordinated a few exciting opportunities for our students in the coming months, so mark your calendars.

🗓️ On Thursday, September 24th, our juniors and seniors will head to Cal State San Marcos for a full day of college exploration. Students will sit in on an admissions presentation, tour the campus, meet with the Disability Support Services office, and get a look at CSUSM's STEM programs. It's a great chance for students to picture themselves on a four-year campus and start asking questions about fit, support, and opportunity.

🗓️ On November 12th, our College & Career Counseling department is taking high school students to Palomar College for Trades Day. Students will explore real-world career paths in construction, technology, and engineering, with interactive activities and demonstrations that highlight everything from labor to leadership in the industry. It's a fantastic opportunity to see what these careers actually look like day-to-day and connect with professionals. Spots are limited, so please have your student fill out the Google Form emailed to their school account, if they are interested!

Chemistry students applied this unit's study of physical and chemical matter and analyzed a reaction in the lab.  This hands-on experiment involved mixing a powder with a liquid to determine whether a physical or chemical change occurred.  Students used their skills in observation, evidence collection, and reporting by studying changes in color, temperature, bubbles, and the resulting formations to learn more about chemical reactions.

Know a family looking for a school where their child will feel understood? Our Fall Open House is a great way for them to visit campus and see if Winston could be their right fit. Feel free to share this flyer with anyone who might be looking for everything Winston has to offer!
