At the Ash Wednesday service this week, Rev. Jim Warren's meditation introduced the sermon series for Lent, "Giving It Up and Taking It On."
About the series, Jim says, "Two of the traditional Lenten disciplines are giving up something we've been doing and taking on something new. I will encourage our congregation to engage in these two disciplines, but on a deeper level. I will invite individuals to give up and take on things that God wants us to give up and take on, not just during the 40 days of Lent, but forever. We'll look at giving up grudges, apathy, selfishness, fear, and death, and taking on forgiveness, compassion, generosity, trust, and life."
On this first Sunday in Lent, we will look at
Luke 6:32-38 and the sermon will be, "Giving Up Grudges and Taking on Forgiveness." In this passage,Jesus tells us to love our enemies, be merciful to them, and be ready to forgive. However, sometimes we hold onto grudges and are hesitant to forgive. What does it mean to forgive someone? Whom do we need to forgive?
Jim will preach at both the 9:00 a.m. traditional and 10:15 a.m. progressive One and All services.
At the 9:00 service we will receive a gift of music from Jeff Courtright, soloist. At 10:15, sing along with the One and All Band and enjoy a light breakfast and hot coffee. Gather in Fellowship Hall, and bring a friend along!
Gifts for Another Table:
Keep bringing items for Center for Hope Ministries! Needed are rice and rice dinners, potato dinners, pasta of any kind, pasta sauce, Hamburger Helper, dinner meals, cereal, mashed/boxed potatoes, and canned fruits and vegetables. Thank you!
