Friday Face-to Face Games to Return July 9; Wednesday & Sunday to Continue Online
We'll soon to back to seeing each other in person!
Starting July 9 we will eliminate Friday online games and hold face-to-face games at the Wood River Community YMCA in Ketchum. We ask that only vaccinated players participate. See details below.
We'll keep Wednesday and Sunday online games as we continually evaluate the mixture of online and in-person games that serves our bridge community best. We are excited about actually seeing people; we also like the ability to stay in touch with our friends in other cities in the online games

We congratulate Jeanne Welch on becoming a life master and Susan Passovoy (who incidentally gave us a dog - more on that later) on becoming a club master. We'll tell you more about a special game on July 1 and the opportunity to join us for the day at the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch. Upcoming lessons will focus on balancing bids, when the points are evenly divided between the two sides, and managing the trump suit.

Play in Our Special Virtual Game on July 1
We'll have a special virtual game on Thursday, July 1, at 3 p.m. as part of the Sun Valley Bridge Retreat at the Idaho Rocky Mountain Ranch.
Everyone - no matter what your location - is invited to join us. The process will be exactly the same as it is for our usual virtual games.

Reserve Your Spot at Games at the YMCA
Our Friday games will be in the upstairs "hot yoga" room at the Y during July, and space is limited. As always, reservations are required. Please let us know if you need a partner, and we will do out best to find one for you.
Details
-
Cost will be $10.
-
Reservations: jo@jomurray.com. Please note that reservations are critical because of the limited space. If you forget to make a reservation, it is unlikely that we will have room to set up an extra table for you.
-
On-time arrival: Again, space is limited. Please plan to arrive by 2:45 p.m. so you can register and be in your seat at 3 p.m. Our directors will not delay the game to accommodate people who arrive later than 2:45 p.m.
- As always, we appreciate your help in setting up and putting away tables, chairs and other supplies.
-
COVID precautions: We ask that only vaccinated players attend. We trust all of you, and this will be on the honor system. Masks will be optional. By registering, you are stating to Sun Valley Bridge, the YMCA and your fellow players that you have been vaccinated. If you have not been vaccinated for any reason, please continue to participate only in our online games for everyone’s safety

Jeanne Welch Becomes Life Master
Congratulations to Jeanne Welch (BBO:BB6048), who became a life master playing with Fran Maughan in one of our May silver point games.
Jeanne has had a home in Ketchum for more than 40 years, but now spends part of each year in the desert.

Susan Passovoy Becomes Club Master
Susan Passovoy (BBO:SJP46) earned the rank of Club Master in a recent online game. We appreciate what she told the district about her experiences with Sun Valley Bridge: "I was welcomed into the club even as a beginner, and encouraged to relax and learn from the expertise and generous thoughtfulness of the director and other members. I had no idea there were specific goals to strive for - I only want to enjoy the game and become a good player."
Note: Please let us know when you achieve a new rank. We do not always receive notifications, particularly if your ACBL mailing address is in another state.

Learn More About Susan Passovoy, Former Polish Honorary Consul
When did you start playing bridge? I started taking lessons from Jo and Chuck about four years ago.
What have you liked about our virtual games? They allow me to stay engaged and learn as I play. However, I have missed seeing everyone and the immediacy of playing in person.
What was your profession in a past life? I was a commercial real estate and land use lawyer in San Francisco.
Where have you lived both now and in the past? I was born in the Central Valley of California and grew up there and in San Francisco. I've also lived in Dallas, Texas, and Warsaw, Poland.
What are you doing when you aren't playing bridge? I'm doing as many things with my dogs as I can. Hiking, riding my horse, Nordic and downhill skiing, snowshoeing, golf, canasta and reading. I enjoy cooking and traveling with my husband, Bob Kaplan. I'm active in the Wood River Women's Foundation and other local philanthropies.
Anything else? I was honorary consul of Poland for 10 years. My commission expired in 2019.

Note from Jo and Chuck: Susan has a special place in our hearts, thanks to our dog. Susan knew of Molly-dog, an Anatolian shepherd in California. Molly's then-owner was moving to Germany to help aging parents, and it was impractical to take a 100-pound dog. Susan knew a large dog would have a better chance of finding a good home in Sun Valley than in California, drove to California to get her and brought her back. We heard the story and asked to meet Molly. We are so lucky that she is now ours.
