The feature film MINARI, filmed entirely in Oklahoma, earned 6 Oscar nominations earlier this week and we at The Actor Factory couldn't be more proud. Of the 12 local actors cast in the film, 4 have ties to The Actor Factory.
The film, written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung, earned nominations for Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, Best Actor (Steve Yeun), Best Supporting Actress (Youn Yuh-jung) and Best Original Score (Emile Mosseri).
Earlier this month, MINARI won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film.
Darryl Cox, who has taught Acting for Camera at The Actor Factory since the doors opened in 2009, plays the role of Mr. Harlan. The film also features three Actor Factory students in principal roles: Jacob M. Wade, a student in the Factory's Young Performer Academy, plays Johnnie. Another Academy student, and also a veteran of the Factory's summertime Film Camp, Joel Telford, plays the role of Older Kid. Factory student Kaye Brownlee-France plays the principal role role of Lab Tech.
MINARI is about a A Korean American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of its own American dream. Amidst the challenges of this new life in the strange and rugged Ozarks, they discover the undeniable resilience of family and what really makes a home.
It was filmed in Oklahoma in the late summer of 2019.
The film is also nominated for an Artios Award, which recognizes excellence in Casting. The film's casting director Julia Kim, along with local casting director Chris Freihofer and associate Jenn Rader, both also from The Factory, are up for the CSA Award, to be presented April 21.
The Academy Awards will be presented April 25.
MINARI is currently in theaters and on demand.

LA Headshot Photographer Now Booking for Friday, March 26
|
|
The Saturday-Sunday weekend sold out, so Los Angeles headshot photographer Jeffrey Nicholson has added an extra day to his Actor Factory visit next week. He is now accepting appointments for Friday, March 26.
Nicholson, owner of The Shot Photography, has shot hundreds of celebrities, thousands of up-and-comers, and is coming back to shoot you.
He will greatly reduce his L.A. rate to shoot local actors, musicians, comedians, speakers, legal and real estate professionals and anyone else needing a killer headshot.
"If you aren't being seen for the right roles, it may be due to your headshot," said Chris Freihofer, director and founder of The Actor Factory.
"You may have a friend with a great camera, or you know a fantastic commercial or portrait photographer that can get you a great deal, but a professional headshot photographer brings a wealth of different knowledge to the game," said Freihofer, who has brought Nicholson to Oklahoma for over 20 years.
"If it's time to take your acting career to the next level, Jeffrey is the guy to do it. He knows how to shoot actors and he knows what filmmakers are looking for in a headshot. In addition, he knows how to shoot for the characters you target to play.
"It's more than just a good photo of you, it is your single most-important marketing material for your acting career. Why trust your career with anyone else?"
With years in the ever-changing business, Nicholson understands the current trends in Los Angeles for actors' headshots, and he will work with you to target for specific looks. He is conscious of what casting directors and filmmakers are looking for in headshots, and will talk to you about what kinds of roles you need to target for.
"Getting your headshots taken by your friend is a fine and affordable way to start your career," Freihofer said. "But when it is time to go to the next level and to be considered for larger, more professional roles, you will need to up your game. The headshot is the first place to start."
Packages start as low as $195 and include professional hair and makeup styling and a digital copy of all of your images.
COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS
Extra care will be taken during your headshot appointment to follow practices advised by the CDC.
