The Final Summer Concert of the Burlington Municipal Band
What: The 2021 summer concert season will come to a jazzy conclusion with our regular concert preceded by a jazz big band made up of Municipal Band members. That performance will be followed by our regular concert - a make up performance of an earlier rained-out concert conducted by Mount Pleasant band director Adam Creager. The family-friendly concert is free of charge - bring a lawn chair, a blanket or sit on provided benches.
When: Sunday August 8. The jazz big band will perform at 6:15 PM and, following break while the stage is reset, the regular concert will begin at 7:30 PM

Motorcycle Safety: Basic Rider Course
What: Successful completion of this 15-hour course, approved as a basic motorcycle safety course by the Iowa Department of Motor Vehicles, can result in a waiver for the driving portion of the motorcycle license endorsement. The course also fulfills the State of Iowa’s mandatory motorcycle driving requirements for legal riders up to 18 years of age. It is open to any other rider, new or experienced, that is interested in learning safe riding techniques and/or desires to obtain a motorcycle endorsement on their state of Iowa driving license. If over 18 years of age and a rider successfully completes the course, Iowa will waive the skills test requirement for obtaining a motorcycle endorsement on an Iowa driving license. Bring a helmet, gloves, face shield, goggles, or approved DOT eye protection. Wear long sleeves, long pants, and leather shoes or boots that cover the ankle. Motorcycles are provided. Your book is included in the course fee. The class is limited to six (one rider coach) or 12 (two rider coaches). Participants must sign-up for and complete the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) e-course prior to taking the class instruction.

Hunter Safety
What: Offered by the DNR, this class will include all forms of hunter safety, hunter ethics, survival in the wild, and live firing on a supervised gun range. This class is mandatory for all hunters born after January 1, 1967, who want to purchase a hunting license. Certification in this class is also acceptable in all states for big game hunting. You must be 11 years of age or older to enroll and cannot receive a license until age 12. You must have a Social Security Number to register and to receive a certificate upon completion. Class size is limited; advanced registration is required.

Players Workshop Holding Open Auditions
What: Players Workshop is re-opening for the 2021-22 season with Ken Ludwig's hilarious "The Fox on the Fairway." There are open auditions for six parts, three males (one in the 18-30 range and two above 50 years) and three females (one in the 18-30 range and two above 50 years). Because actors will be working in very close contact with each other, Covid vaccinations are strongly encouraged.

Livestrong at the YMCA
What: The Burlington YMCA is offering a free three month exercise program to adult cancer survivors in the Burlington area. Specially trained instructors guide participants through areas of exercise focusing on cardio endurance, strength, flexibility and balance. Included, is a membership to the YMCA for the run of the program.

Pint By Number - Downtown Bar Crawl
What: Pick up your paint by numbers 'canvas' at the Art Center, then make your way to pre-selected bars throughout downtown. Each participating bar will have a couple different colors of paint waiting for you to fill in your painting. Take your time and enjoy a drink while you paint! You'll need to stop at every bar to complete your piece. Last stop is at the Art Center for final touches! Super fun awards and prizes will be given for different categories.

What: In this American Welding Society "SENSE" aligned course, participants will learn the fundamentals of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW). SMAW is one of the first and most popular welding processes. It is used extensively in industrial fabrication and the construction of steel structures. Topics covered include: welding safety, hands-on SMAW welding in all positions using various electrodes, applied math, blueprint reading (online), and welding symbols interpretation.

Sgraffito is a technique where you put down a layer of color and carve it away to make cool designs.
