Iowa Workforce Development Report Job Refusals or Return to Work Refusals

Summer Reading Programs Reduce Summer Learning Loss     
What: The Burlington Public Library's summer reading programs for all ages began June 1 and continue through August 1. In addition to a full calendar of virtual programs and challenges, the summer programs encourage reading throughout the summer with some great prizes thanks to local business sponsors. Research shows that students who don't read in the summer lose skills that need to be retaught in the fall and that the effects of summer learning loss can accumulate and cause long-term achievement gaps. June is National Dairy Month      
What: Celebrate by enjoying local cheese from Hinterland Dairy in Donnellson, Iowa. The Krogmeier's make fresh cheese curds, aged Alpine cheddar cheese and fresh spread quark with the milk from their cows right on their farm. Visit their website to learn more about their farm and order cheese for Pasture-side Pickup from their farm store Fridays 4-6 and Saturdays 10-2. They will also be at the Jefferson Street Farmers Market this summer!

Library Services and Hours Expanding   
What: The library is open for computer lab use, for Curbside Library, and for reference and help using the Digital Library by chat, phone, email, or social media on Monday-Thursday from 9-6 and Fridays and Saturdays from 9-5. The Digital Library is always open for downloading ebooks, audiobooks, and magazines, doing research, using live one-on-one tutoring, streaming movies and music, and more. Curbside Library includes materials pickup as well as copying, scanning, faxing, printing, and borrowing laptops. The computer lab is in the meeting room off of the lobby. Anne Frank's Postcard Project     
What: Anne loved to collect post cards and so to honor her memory and to remember the 1.5 million children lost in the Holocaust, we collect post cards, too. Our goal is 1.5 million, which will take generations! Anne Frank and her sister, Margot, were pen pals with Danville sisters, Juanita and Betty Wagner. You can see the correspondence between the two families in our Anne Frank Museum!
When: Anne Frank's 91st Birthday, June 12 is the day we set aside each year to honor Anne's birthday. Post Cards to honor her are welcome all year round, but in June especially! Please help us, your post card can just say "Happy Birthday, Anne" and then sign your name!

Alzheimer's & Brain Awareness Month         
What: Each year in June, people across the world go purple to raise awareness and show support for the over 50 million individuals worldwide living with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias for Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. The Alzheimer’s Association Iowa Chapter is asking people to help spread awareness and inspire action to help fight Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
