This final week of our sermon series on  Being Disciples by Rowan Williams, we consider the topic "Life in the Spirit." As I ponder Williams' words and the state of our world, I see the Holy Spirit giving us the "true grit" we need to engage with the world in the best possible way. The fruit of the Spirit, which we will hear on Sunday, seem awfully "nice," even powerless, in the face of human rights violations, environmental catastrophes, war, and on and on. But things like love, kindness, and gentleness, are in fact radical and counter-cultural sources of awe-inspiring power. Through these unexpected tools, the Spirit gives us the true grit we need for such a time as this.

Peace be with you,
PM

The following poem by Anna Blaedel describes this Spirit-filled true grit beautifully:

Sunday's Readings
Psalm 130
Galatians 5:16-23

This Sunday we will highlight the final chapter from Rowan Williams' book,
Being Disciples:  Essentials for the Christian Life.
Williams invites us into faithfully pondering the practices of discipleship for modern-day living.
