We welcomed our Leadership Roseville Class of 2027 to Sonoma County this week for their retreat. It was a wonderful opportunity to share more about the history of Roseville, the importance of the Leadership program, and how as a class they can come together for their service project.

A big thank you to Kate Rebello for leading discussions on CliftonStrengths for the incoming class as well as Charlie Harrison for facilitating the two day retreat.

We had a full room this morning at our Joint Economic Development and Government Affairs Meeting with the Auburn, Lincoln, Loomis, and Rocklin Chambers.

Our Event Sponsor, Placer County Association of Realtors, shared updates on our current real estate market and trends presented by their President, Taffy Maurer.

This meeting also featured our State of Economic Development panel, moderated by Eytan Wallace of KTXL FOX40 and featuring local economic development experts - Jonathan Wright with City of Auburn, Daniella Stepek with City of Lincoln, Melissa Anguiano with City of Roseville, and Andrew Keys with City of Rocklin. This panel provided updates on current growth projects, impacts of successful projects, and what continues to make the Placer area the best place to live and work. 

Another busy week connecting and collaborating with our members! Tuesday, the Creative Collab Focus Group/Roundtable met to plan the details of The Pitch Clinic: A Creative Coaching event for local businesses (register to attend at the end of this email under Upcoming Events).

Our Women In Business Group, led by Marcie Shelton of The Leader's Partner, met on Wednesday with 35+ professionals.

The following day, they were off connecting members with one another at the Breakfast held at Randy Peters Event Center. 

They celebrated the new Quick Quack Car Wash on N. Sunrise with a Ribbon cutting and welcomed five new member to the chamber this week:

Placer County and Roseville are getting some well-deserved national attention! Supervisor Bonnie Gore, in collaboration with county staff, recently authored an article in Industry Today highlighting efforts to build a more resilient regional supply chain and including a shout-out to our Chamber’s Talent Pipeline Management (TPM) efforts.

And that’s not all! Site Selection magazine is also spotlighting Placer County and Roseville as two of California’s fast-growing communities, highlighting the continued momentum and opportunity in our region.

We love seeing Placer County and Roseville recognized on the national stage, and we’re proud to play a role in strengthening the business community and preparing our region for the future.

It’s that time again! Our 2027 Installation Dinner will be held on Thursday, January 28th @the Grounds, which means it’s time to make nominations for our awards! If you know of someone who has made a community impact, served as an outstanding leader, or championed our Chamber, please fill out our Athena Award Nomination Form and Edward M. Friedman Community Service Award Nomination Form.

CalChamber Policy and Workforce Summit

Yesterday, our Board Government Relations Chair and Director of Public Affairs, Chelsea Carbahal and Brooke Whiting, attended CalChamber’s Policy and Workforce Summit in Walnut Creek. It was an event filled with advice on how to launch grassroots campaigns, carry out advocacy messaging for local business communities, and how to use state and national resources through CalChamber and the U.S. Chamber to educate members on bills that can impact how they run and operate their businesses, as well as getting legislators support in opposing or supporting bills impacting industries in our membership.

Chelsea served as a panelist sharing more about how to navigate ballot measures and elections in California, and making voices heard through joining coalitions and utilizing Political Action Committees to act on issues and campaigns.

SB 122: New Sales Tax Rules for Digital Products

Effective January 1, 2027, SB 122 will expand California’s sales and use tax framework to include electronically delivered software and remotely accessed software, including most SaaS and cloud-based services. The change will create new tax and compliance obligations for both businesses selling and purchasing digital products.

Businesses should begin preparing now by reviewing how software and bundled services are classified and invoiced, updating billing and tax systems, and understanding California’s sourcing rules. SB 122 also includes a $5 million threshold that can shift sales tax collection responsibility from the seller to the purchaser, creating additional compliance considerations for larger transactions.

The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) is continuing to work through implementation questions, including sourcing, multi-year contracts, and collection responsibilities.
