Calling All First Year Scouts For The 2020
First Year Scout Summer Weekends Program!
Tuscarora 2020
First Year Scout Summer Weekends Program:

Tkahsaha!
.
Tkahsaha ”— meaning New Beginnings — is a program for brand new Scouts that have just moved up from Webelos or those joining the Troop right before summer camp . It is not intended for Scouts who have been a member of the Troop for some time and simply making their first trip to camp.

The purpose of the program is to help new Scouts become comfortable with Scouting methods and give them an understanding of how Scouting skills are learned and adapted for a lifetime.

While Tkahsaha is traditionally a week-long program, we are excited to announce that for the summer of 2020 we have been able to schedule the first year camper program to be offered over the course of two consecutive weekends: (Must attend both weekends in order to complete all requirements and complete program.)

Weekend One: 9:00a. on Friday, July 10, 2020 – 12:00p. on Sunday, July 12, 2020
AND
Weekend Two: 9:00a. on Friday, July 17, 2020 – 5:30p. on Sunday, July 19, 2020
Fees : Tkahsaha Program Fees are just $240.00 per Scout (This fee includes both weekends, all meals at camp, program materials, and a special edition Tkahsaha First Year program patch!

HURRY! The deadline to register is next Friday, June 26, 2020 by 5:00p., so SIGN UP TODAY !

Registration: Registration is available online only at the following link:

Scouts participating in Tkahsaha will function as members of a provisional Troop and become part of a patrol during program time. They will camp as patrols with the provisional Troop, our provisional Scoutmasters, and participate in all Troop and program activities. This program will include multiple rank advancement requirements (full list at this link on page 2), completion of the Firem'n Chit , completion of the Totin’ Chip , the Swimming Merit Badge , (or instructional swim) and the First Aid Merit Badge .

During this 2-Weekend program, Scouts will work in their patrols and be introduced to many exciting areas including: hiking, wood tools, using a knife and ax, camping, fire building, campsite selection and set-up, how to pack a backpack and use of camping gear, ropes, knots, compass, and cooking. Scouts will also participate in patrol competitions where they can apply the skills they have learned.

Each Scout in the program will need to bring their own tent, a mess kit, small daypack, canteen, poncho, compass, Scout handbook and pocketknife , which they will learn to use properly. ( A complete packing list is available on the event registration site. )

Recent Break-In and Theft at Camp Tuscarora
Recent Break-In
at Camp Tuscarora Resulting In $16,000.00+ Of Stolen Equipment & Damages

As many of you may have heard, there was a break-in at Camp Tuscarora a few weeks ago, and thieves made off with over $16,000.00 worth of equipment and caused damage to camp facilities.

This theft couldn't have come at a worse time. (Not that there is ever a convenient time to be burglarized.) The COVID-19 pandemic has already taken a huge toll on our overall camp operations this year. Our annual OA Camp Work Day is scheduled for next weekend in preparation for beginning to re-open camp and resume youth program events in July, and this crime was a low-blow at a most inopportune time.

If your unit would like to help with or sponsor the replacement of any of the stolen items, any and all assistance would be most appreciated!
