A Message from the Headmaster

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

I would like to try something new this year with the Friday Flash. We talk often of our pursuit of the three transcendentals: Truth, Goodness, and Beauty. When we do, we talk in a very general sense. About once a month this year I will dedicate this portion of the Friday Flash to The Transcendental Report, a place where I share an observation of Truth, Goodness, and Beauty from that week.

The Transcendental Report

Truth

This week I witnessed kindergarten students learning phonograms. These basic components of written language will last these children a lifetime. In the spirit of promoting human flourishing, there is nothing more human than language, which makes observing these scholars grow in this specific way all the more joyful.

Goodness

During a specials class, one child who has difficulty attending to lessons and little social awareness was struggling more than usual. Rather than grow impatient with his distractions, or annoyed by the volume of his voice, this young scholar diligently stood by his side. She possessed no training or even understanding of his internal struggles, but she did know how to be a friend. She affirmed and encouraged with every bit of her tiny self. It didn’t make any difference. The loud distractions continued. Her friend did receive the support needed from the teachers, and throughout the whole process he had a friend by his side.

Beauty

My observation of beauty is actually manifold. Our teachers walk a delicate line when setting up the aesthetics of their classrooms. Too much on the walls is distracting to scholars, but too little feels cold. Each room has at least one piece of classical art, as well as a few minimal learning supports. Color schemes are muted, because brighter or livelier schemes can be overstimulating. Furthermore, a muted scheme does more to present a formal and elevated space that promotes respect for learning. Our teachers have done fantastic work in creating beautiful classrooms for our scholars to daily engage in their own pursuit of the transcendentals.

Heartily devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D.

Volunteer in the Lunch Room

The Archway Trivium PSO invites parent volunteers to help in the Archway Trivium Lunchroom! Parent volunteers can assist in serving the food, helping the younger children in the lunchroom, ensuring the lunch room remains clean and lunch period runs smoothly. You can sign up to volunteer once a month, once a week, or every day. It’s a very important volunteer role that also makes for a fun view into your scholar’s life at school!

All volunteers MUST be verified through the Great Heart volunteer application (Raptor) and have completed the Archway Trivium Volunteer Training prior to serving. The Raptor clearance must be renewed each year on/after July 1.

Ways to Participate:

Volunteer as a Hot Lunch Server

This role is responsible for organizing the lunches by grade and distributing them to the students as they come in for lunch. Please plan to be there from 10:30am-1:00pm. Volunteers will receive a lunch account credit with My Hot Lunchbox. The credit is $5 per person per day, and the volunteer must be registered to MHL with a matching email to receive the credit. The credits will be tallied monthly and credited to your account within the first 2 weeks of the following month. Please email psolunch@archwaytrivium.org if you have any questions regarding the credits. Children are not permitted to help with this volunteer position.

Volunteer as a Lunchroom Helper

This role was created to assist our 1st-5th grade classes and help keep the lunchroom clean and running smoothly. Please plan to be there from 10:45am-1:00pm. Younger siblings are welcome to serve alongside parents as a “Lunchroom Buddy.”

Restaurant Night at Old Chicago - September 17

Also, don't miss the interactive trivia at 5:30 PM to find our "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?" See you there!

Traffic Flow Updates

We appreciate your patience and kindness during student drop off and pick up, as we know it is an adjustment at the start of the school year.

Here are a few reminders that will help our traffic flow run smoothly:

  • You must have your PHYSICAL ORANGE or GREEN pick-up card clearly visible during pick-up. We do not accept a photo of your card on a phone. If you forget your pickup card, you must go to the front office.

  • Please keep pulling forward to eliminate gaps in the traffic flow. This helps relieve traffic back-ups on Encanto Blvd.

  • Parents in the drop-off/pick-up zone must remain in their vehicle.

  • Follow the directions of staff on duty.

  • Parents picking up both Archway and Prep students use the Archway driveline. Prep students do not use pickup cards and should be ready and watching along the sidewalk north of the gym to get into your car. Remind your Prep students to arrive promptly to the pickup area after school. If they are not present when you reach the sidewalk, you will be asked to loop around and re-enter the driveline to keep traffic moving. As Prep dismisses after Archway, do not arrive to the driveline before your Prep student's pickup time.

  • Archway students may not be dropped off/picked up in the Trivium Prep (6th-12 grade) traffic flow. Please use the Archway traffic flow to drop-off and pickup your Archway & Prep students.

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
