FRIDAY FLASH

August 25, 2023

A Message from Headmaster Scott

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

This week we held our first of eight Socratic seminars. It has long been the practice at Great Hearts that faculty will periodically join together to study a great book together. There is some irony in a common saying of the day—“I’m not ‘book smart,’ I’m street smart.” The implication is that the speaker has learned wisdom through experience, struggle, interactions with diverse people, or any other encounter one might have on a street. The irony exists in the fact that someone who reads extensively is going to have far more encounters of this kind than the person who does not, assuming he or she is reading good books. The reader can meet with Frederic Douglass and Little Bear, brave the high seas with Nathanial Bowditch, and persevere through Mordor with Frodo and Sam. Doing so creates in the reader a deep inner world that can be drawn upon in times of difficulty and in times of pleasure. It is true that those who over-emphasize the inner world do so to the neglect of the actual world, which may be why the saying exists. Nevertheless, we should not quickly dismiss the value of great books as they relate to “real world” experience. It is the inner world of the mind and heart that allows us to ascribe meaning to those “real world” experiences. Happy reading!

Heartily Devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D.

Headmaster, Archway Trivium

Student Pledge Leaders: Britta G., Ashlyn C., Leah D., Alexander M., Alyssa P.

Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off/Pick-up

Please carefully review the Archway Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off and Pick-up and reach out to the front office with any questions. Taking the time to understand these procedures will help to ensure the safety of our students/staff and a smooth traffic flow.

General Reminders:

  • Morning Drop-off is from 7:20-7:47 AM. Parents who wish to drop-off earlier must enroll in Early Drop-off Club.
  • Parents in the drop-off/pick-up zone must remain in their vehicle. Faculty will assist students exiting their vehicles, however, faculty are not allowed to assist students with car seats, so parents are highly encouraged to practice prior to the start of the year so that students are able to do that independently.
  • Please have your GREEN or ORANGE pick-up card clearly displayed on your dashboard during pick-up to help keep our process running smoothly. Pick-up cards will be handed out at Meet the Teacher in your oldest Archway child's classroom.
  • Due to limited parking, there will be NO walk-up option for student drop-off/pick-up at this time.
  • Parents with both Archway and Prep students: There is NO Archway drop-off/pick-up on the Prep side of campus. You must use the Archway Traffic Lanes to pick up your Archway/Prep students. Please review the pick-up procedure with your Trivium Prep students emphasizing the importance of arriving to the Archway Pick-up/Drop-off Zone promptly after school to be ready to load into your vehicle.
  • Parents picking up Archway and Middle School Students, DO NOT arrive to campus before 3:15 PM. You may not wait for your middle school student in the Archway Pick-up Line if arriving before this time.

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
