A Message from Headmaster Scott
Dear Archway Trivium West Families,
What do you want to be when you grow up? I have a love-hate relationship with this question. On the affirmative side, it points one’s eyes to a future. In a way, it is asking about your hopes. And what could be more inspiring than to take a moment to contemplate the person you are to become? This is why answers like “I want to be good, or kind, or charitable, or virtuous” are all great answers. However, these types of responses are sometimes considered quaint at best and snarky at worst because the questioner is not asking about one’s character. This is where the hate part of the relationship emerges. Usually, the questioner is actually asking about career goals. This is another oddity of humanity—we define ourselves by our work (which concept is another love-hate relationship). That’s not the part that bothers me. It’s the idea of growing up. I don’t mean that in a Peter Pan-stagnation of growth sort of way. On the contrary, I would ask “At what point have I grown up? When shall I cease to grow? When is my development complete?"
This week, after reading a selection from Erasmus, I asked my faculty if humanity was a spectrum. Erasmus presents a compelling view.
Primitive man, living a lawless, unschooled, promiscuous life in the woods was not human, but rather a wild animal. It is reason which defines our humanity.
If reason defines our humanity, and it is possible for one person to have more reason than another, then (at least in Erasmus’ view) we must be able to grow along a spectrum where a wild animal, slave to its appetites, holds one position and a fully formed human being holds the other. If growing up is actually a thing, then I would like to be a fully formed human being when I grow up.
Heartily Devoted,
Dr. Clay Scott

Academy Giving - Tax Credit
|
It’s a three-day R & R weekend. It’s the perfect time to do your taxes! As you get prepared, consider if you have yet done your AZ Public School Tax Credit to Trivium. You will want to first redirect up to $200 (single filers)/$400 (married filing jointly) at bit.ly/ArchwayTriviumTC. You will be emailed a receipt you can use to claim that amount back when you file your AZ state tax return using Form 322. Please share with others who have an AZ state tax liability! It’s the easiest way to support Trivium. There will be a SILLY SOCK CELEBRATION if our school reaches its Tax Credit goal by 4/15/2022!!
If you have questions, please contact our Academy Giving Manager, Annann Hong, at (773) 307-6779 or ahong@archwaytrivium.org. Thank you so much!

Re-enrollment is Coming! March 14-23
Re-enrollment is the time for current ATW Kindergarten-4th grade students to confirm or release your student's seat for the 2022-2023 school year and
update any contacts, residing address, and/or medical information by electronically submitting re-enrollment paperwork and uploading an updated AZ Proof of Residency document through the Parent Portal between Monday, March 14 – Wednesday, March 23.
Re-Enrollment Steps:
-
On Monday, March 14, Great Hearts will send an email with the re-enrollment instructions. It will instruct you to log on to the enrollment Parent Portal, fill out the electronic re-enrollment packet for each of your students. This will include updating important contacts, residing address and/or medical information for your child.
- In addition to the packet, you will need to scan and upload a copy of proof of AZ Residency that matches the home address on the Re-enrollment Form. This can be a driver’s license, utility, internet, or phone bill, or a credit card/bank statement.
- If your child will not be returning, you will still log in and click the Re-Enroll Now button but will then select the not returning option which will prompt you to print, sign, and upload a withdrawal form instead of the AZ proof of Residency document.
Please contact the office if you have any questions.

Lifetime is a private business and we want to be good neighbors. Please plan to use the school's published pick-up procedures for the safety of all. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thank you for your patience and caution during student drop-off and pick-up. The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance.
As a reminder, to minimize the backup of traffic on Encanto/Bullard before the end of the school day, we are closing the Encanto entrance to our school parking lot from 2:35-3:00pm. Goodyear Police will be monitoring traffic on Encanto and Bullard during this time, and if you are stopped on one of these roads waiting to enter campus, you may be ticketed.
On Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday, families who are picking up Archway-only students should arrive to campus AFTER 3:10 PM. Families picking up both Archway and Prep students, please remind your Prep students to arrive to the pick-up zone promptly.
On Wednesdays, families picking up BOTH Archway and Prep students are asked to arrive AFTER 1:40 PM. On Wednesdays, families picking up Archway-only should arrive at 1:25PM.
Parents picking up Archway students from school MUST use the Archway pickup line. Prep students picking up Archway students to meet a parent driver may NOT load into a car in the Prep pick-up line or on Palm Lane. The entrance/exit to our parking lot from Encanto Blvd is right turn only.
Please review the following links for the modified Traffic Flow and reach out to the front office with any questions.
