A Note from Headmaster Scott
Dear Archway Trivium Families,
I would like you to enjoy this wonderful piece by Rembrandt van Rijn titled Landscape with the Rest on the Flight into Egypt. Rembrandt is highly regarded as one of history’s greatest at using light to tell story and emote. Here are a few questions to consider.
Consider the contrast between the two main light sources. Which one draws your eye more? What sort of emotional response does each conjure? What is the role of the shadows cast by these light sources?
There is a building with some lighted windows in the background. What is the significance of this building? Is it a single, large building, or a series of buildings?
How does the tone of the painting express the word “flight” in the title?
Water and light are both often associated with life, while their opposites are associated with death. What is the metaphorical value of light/darkness and water/dryness in this piece? How does this relate to the subject of the painting?
I’m sure there are others. Dig deep. Ask more. Enjoy!
Heartily Devoted,
Clay Scott
Headmaster

Friendship Day - February 14
Friendship is one of our core virtues at Archway Trivium, and so it is fitting to spend time to deepen our understanding of this life-giving virtue. Throughout the year we learn about friendship as we see it lived out in our literature and in our history.
As we want to keep the focus on friendship and what it means to be a good friend on Valentine's Day (and every day), students will not be permitted to bring store-bought valentines, candy, or gifts to school. Please join us in celebrating friendship through acts of kindness on this day.

The AZ Public School Tax Credit is an incredibly easy way of supporting Archway Trivium. You are choosing to contribute a portion of your tax dollars to the school (up to $200 if you file single/up to $400 if you file married), and one of the primary ways these funds are used is to offset the out-of-pocket fees for our field trips at Archway.
We are currently 38% towards our Tax Credit goal. Please contribute your Tax Credit before your file your 2022 state tax return, and then claim the credit from the state of AZ on Form 322. Have your friends & family with AZ state tax liability do the same! If we reach our Tax Credit goal, we will DUNK A DEAN!! Vote for which Dean you would most like to see dunked & be sure to help us reach our Tax Credit GOAL!! If you have any questions about how the Tax Credit works, please reach out to Annann Hong, our Family Giving & Community Engagement Officer, at ahong@archwaytrivium.org or (773) 307-6779.

Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off/Pick-up
With the expansion of Archway and addition of the new building, there are significant changes to the traffic flow for the upcoming school year. Please carefully review the new Archway Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off and Pick-up and reach out with any questions. Taking the time to understand these procedures will help to ensure the safety of our students/staff and a smooth traffic flow.
Carpooling Update: Our east side pick-up lane has had a faster track and will now be our designated carpool lane.
If you have 2 or more Archway ONLY pick-up cards, you will be guided into this fast-track lane for a faster pick-up. Please be sure to have your pick-up cards ready to show our traffic controllers that you are carpooling so they can guide you to the appropriate lane. To maintain the flow of pick-up, others may be directed to the fast-track lane, but carpools will be given priority. Please do not enter the carpool lanes until you are directed to do so.
As a reminder, if you are picking up Middle School students DO NOT ARRIVE to campus before 3:15 PM. This creates significant delays. If you arrive before 3:15, we will ask you to go back into our pick-up lanes and try again.
Please follow the link below to review the DETAILED Archway Traffic Flow Plan and be sure to share this link with anyone authorized to drop-off/pick-up your children.
