A Message from Dr. Scott

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

I was talking with a fellow headmaster about reading and she conceptualized reading practice in a way I had not previously considered. A young reader can read about 100 words per minute, older students read around 140 words per minute. We ask each scholar to read individually for 20 minutes per night. At the rates provided, that is 2,000 or 2,800 words read per night, respectively. If this is carried out over the course of a full calendar year, a younger student who reads daily will have read about 730,000 words more than the peer who does not read daily. For the older student, the difference is over 1 million words. That is an enormous difference in the amount of practice a student can get. If you want your child to improve academically in almost any way, the most valuable thing you can do is to be extremely consistent in having him or her practice reading. Have a great weekend!

Clay Scott, Ed. D.

Headmaster, Archway Trivium

Paper Pie Book Fair - November 6-8

The annual Paper Pie book fair will be held in the school library during school hours on November 6-8. From set up, assisting scholars while shopping, and tear down, parent volunteers are needed to help this event run smoothly! Classroom visits are indicated on the sign up so you may volunteer for the time block when your scholar’s classroom comeshttps://archwaytriviumpso.membershiptoolkit.com/volunteer/139424

This year, we also have an online option to pre-pay and send funds electronically if you’re not comfortable sending cash with your scholar. Please be sure you still fill out the envelope that was sent home this week with your scholar as that is their “ticket” to attend the book fair. https://form.jotform.com/242976277846172

New this year, the book fair will be open during the Winter music concerts on Tuesday, November 5, from 2-7 pm. Parents and scholars will be able to shop together during this time. All scholars must have an adult present with them while shopping on Tuesday. This is a great chance to get a jump start on holiday shopping as well.

Please reach out with any questions to the school librarian at jtinker@archwaytrivium.org.

Paper Pie Read-a-thon Results

We had 121 scholars participated in the Paper Pie Read-a-thon over fall break. This was a highest participation ever, nearly double over last year! They read a total of 46,070 minutes over 10 days!

Keeping with tradition, the classroom with the most participants in the Read-a-thon will be rewarded with a popcorn party by the Archway Trivium PSO. Congratulations to 2D, Mrs. Kirk's and Ms. Miramontes' classroom, with 10 scholars participating! The date of the popcorn party will be coming soon!

As in previous years, there was a grade level reading challenge proposed to all scholars in grades 1-5. The original goal was to read 300 minutes over 10 days and many of the scholars went above and beyond. Literary and Historical Figure Day - Friday, November 22

Save the Date for our annual Literary & Historical Figure Day on Friday, November 22. Scholars are invited to choose a literary or historical figure from the Archway curriculum and come to school dressed as that figure* on Friday, November 22. This is a great way to celebrate our love of history and literature. All students are encouraged to participate!

Please Note: Students must complete and return a Costume Proposal Form to their classroom teacher in order to participate.

*Please remember that the character you choose should be from one of the Classics-to-Keep from the K-12 list, Greek or Roman Mythology or a historical character from our History or Science curriculum. It’s preferred, but not required, that your character looks like the author’s description of the character and not a movie version. If your costume will be at all see through, you must wear your uniform underneath. If you choose not to participate, you will need to come in uniform.

*All costumes must abide by dress code guidelines in the Family Handbook and must exclude any frightening or aggressive costumes or accessories.

Thank you!

Thank you, PSO and 3rd Grade families for the delicious lunch this week! The soups, sandwiches and caramel apple station were amazing! We are so thankful for your generosity.

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
