A Message from Headmaster Scott
Dear Archway Trivium West Families,
At the close of our first quarter, I have been reflecting on the beginning of the year and preparing my mind for the next stage. I would like to take this moment to highlight a mistake this summer. This summer I, along with our leadership team, interviewed a teacher for a position on the team. Seeing some warning signs, I did not offer the teacher the desired job. Instead, I offered a position as a teacher apprentice. This was my mistake. To my great surprise, the teacher demonstrated immense humility and accepted the lower position. During training in July, this teacher was thoroughly impressive. When a lead teacher backed out shortly before school began, I offered the teacher the opportunity to take a lead position (ironically, it was the same position for which the initial interview was given). With a whole lot of grit and the signature humility, this teacher has performed marvelously despite never having led a class before. I am a big fan of grit—strength of will and determination are often the engines that drive success. What set this teacher apart, and I believe accelerated success, was the humility. Grit is hard. Humility is soft. Having both is a beautiful and powerful thing, which in this case, has benefitted 30 children and their families. Furthermore, I was proven wrong in my initial assessment. When a challenge is in front of us, may we follow the example of this good teacher by putting in the time and effort while humbly submitting to the expectations and lessons from those who have gone before us.
Heartily Devoted,
Dr. Clay Scott

Quarter 1 Student Evaluations
K-5 student evaluations for Quarter 1 will be available by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8 in the Powerschool Parent Portal. We ask that parents please log on to the parent portal before the office closes for fall break to ensure that you are able to access your child's evaluations. A successful login attempt will result in a message indicating the portal is closed. The portal will remain disabled until evaluations go out. At that time, the portal will be opened temporarily for you to view your students' report card(s). You will be notified by email on October 8 when evaluations are ready to view.
- If your child was a student at ATW last year, you will use the same login as last year.
- If you have new students for the 2020-2021 school year (example: returning 4th grader but a new kindergartener or new from outside of the Great Hearts network), you will receive an email with their Access ID and Password information to add them to your existing account by Wednesday, September 29.
- If you are new to Archway Trivium West this year but attended another Great Hearts school last year, you will still use the same login and password that you used last year.
You can access the Powerschool Parent Portal website here. We have found that using Google Chrome or Firefox as your web browser is best. Please reach out to Stefany Dean at sdean@archwaytrivium.org if you have any questions about your Powerschool Parent Portal account.

Great Hearts Telethon - It's a Wrap! | Thank you so much to everyone who tuned in this past Saturday to the Great Hearts Telethon and to those that generously made a gift to the Teacher Excellence Fund. At the end of the day, the Telethon goal was exceeded, and over $585k was raised to support teacher bonuses to help retain our most competent and qualified faculty. Tina Swartz, Academy Giving Manager for Archway Trivium East, and Annann Hong, Academy Giving Manager for Archway Trivium West and Trivium Prep, happily fielded donor calls while our Headmasters emceed the Trivium Spotlight.
If you haven’t had a chance to watch the Headmaster Jeopardy or the Trivium Teacher Mad Libs that were featured during the Telethon, please get your popcorn ready before you tune in to be thoroughly entertained by your Trivium Headmasters and our faculty!!

Thank you for your patience and caution during student drop-off and pick-up. The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance.
As a reminder, to minimize the backup of traffic on Encanto/Bullard before the end of the school day, we are closing the Encanto entrance to our school parking lot from 2:35-3:00pm. Goodyear Police will be monitoring traffic on Encanto and Bullard during this time, and if you are stopped on one of these roads waiting to enter campus, you may be ticketed.
On Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday, families who are picking up Archway-only students should arrive to campus AFTER 3:10 PM. Families picking up both Archway and Prep students, please remind your Prep students to arrive to the pick-up zone promptly.
On Wednesdays, families picking up BOTH Archway and Prep students are asked to arrive AFTER 1:40 PM. On Wednesdays, families picking up Archway-only should arrive at 1:25PM.
Parents picking up Archway students from school MUST use the Archway pickup line. Prep students picking up Archway students to meet a parent driver may NOT load into a car in the Prep pick-up line or on Palm Lane. The entrance/exit to our parking lot from Encanto Blvd is right turn only.
Please review the following links for the modified Traffic Flow and reach out to the front office with any questions.
