A Message from the Headmaster

Dear Archway Trivium Families,

For the past few years our PSO has carried a tradition of collecting donations for our teachers at the end of October and into the first weeks of November. We called this our Snowstorm event because we had previously carried it out between Thanksgiving and winter break. The intent of this tradition was to ensure that all our teachers would be able to receive some form of a holiday bonus. Through the great generosity of our community, this was largely successful. The reason for the change in timing was legal. We learned that these “bonuses” were subject to tax withholding, which necessitated additional time to process the funds. From that point, there have been ripple effects each ensuing year that have made the preservation of this tradition unsustainable in either of those earlier forms.

This year, we will retain two key parts of our tradition. First, scholars will again have the opportunity to decorate a snowflake to put on their teacher’s door. They will likewise be able to decorate the doors for Specials teachers and ESS teachers. Second, we will continue to hold the annual Omelet Breakfast to thank our teachers. These are great activities that connect our community and express gratitude to our teachers for their wonderful work.

The change will happen in gift giving. Rather than collecting funds, we will encourage families to give individually to faculty and staff, should they desire to do so. This change will allow for a more direct connection between families and teachers, create more opportunities for students to be involved, and alleviate the strain and financial cost of navigating the legalities of the previous system. We hope this will be a step forward for our academy. That being said, remembering our history can be helpful here. As previously mentioned, the original intent of Snowstorm was to ensure that all teachers received a gift from families during the holiday season. Some of our families had noticed that, although homeroom teachers received gifts in abundance, support staff such as personnel in the front office or special education department were often overlooked. Our faculty and staff favorites lists are available on the school website. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your teachers’ gifts this season.

Thank you all for your great hearts and generous spirits!

Heartily devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D.

Headmaster

Literary and Historical Figure Day - Friday, November 14

Save the Date for our annual Literary & Historical Figure Day on Friday, November 14. Scholars are invited to choose a literary or historical figure from the Archway curriculum and come to school dressed as that figure* on Friday, November 14. This is a great way to celebrate our love of history and literature. All students are encouraged to participate!

Please Note: Students must complete and return a Costume Proposal Form to their classroom teacher in order to participate.

*Please remember that the character you choose should be from one of the Classics-to-Keep from the K-12 list, Greek or Roman Mythology or a historical character from our History or Science curriculum. It’s preferred, but not required, that your character looks like the author’s description of the character and not a movie version. If your costume will be at all see through, you must wear your uniform underneath. If you choose not to participate, you will need to come in uniform.

*All costumes must abide by dress code guidelines in the Family Handbook and must exclude any frightening or aggressive costumes or accessories.

At Archway Trivium we have various days throughout the year where students are encourage to come dressed in costumes that center around our curriculum. We do not allow costumes to celebrate holidays like Halloween.

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
