A Message from the Headmaster

Dear Archway Trivium families,

As we close out this first quarter of our school year, I would like to encourage all families who have not yet done so to sign up and attend a conference with your child’s teacher. This is an integral step in partnering with the teacher for the benefit of the scholar.

Secondly, I would like to report on our three key areas of focus for the school year. Our first area of focus is in the area of academic intervention. We have implemented the Foundations math intervention program and it has been running smoothly through most of the quarter after a few initial hiccups. Likewise, our reading intervention program is in full swing. At the end of just one quarter of work, we have about 8 scholars per grade who have exited intervention because they are now reading at grade level. We also reworked our data tracking system for identifying students needing extra support and preliminary numbers indicate we are on track.

Our second area of focus is on team health. Although this has not been a problem area, our leadership team decided that we wanted to do something to make our campus a more enjoyable and connective place to work. In the first quarter our teachers received specific training on handling challenging conversations, holding peers accountable, and reflective listening (among other topics). These trainings were conducted within grade-level team meetings so they could be practiced within that space. It is too early to tell if the efforts in this area are paying off. However, I will say that our leadership team has been working on these same things and I feel stronger than ever because of that work. I hope that feeling is present throughout the academy.

Finally, we have adjusted our work on teacher coaching. This has been a financial investment as well as a time investment because we added some teaching assistant positions specifically focused on developing lead teachers. We have already seen the benefit of this decision in 5th grade where one of our apprentices has been able to fill in seamlessly for the lead teacher who is currently on maternity leave. Other benefits have included a much higher number of observations completed after one quarter compared to previous years. Again, the benefits of this work are more likely to be visible in the second semester, but we have seen growth in our teachers.

Thank you for your support and partnership in the noble work of forming human souls. I realize that today’s letter may be more technical than usual, but I also believe there is value in letting our parent community understand the things we are striving to improve at our academy. I hope you all have a great fall break and I look forward to seeing you all at conferences!

Heartily devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D.

APS Supply My Class Awards Four Archway Teachers

Congratulations, Ms. Medina, Ms. Hunt, Ms. Smith and Mrs. Kolia, on being this year's APS Supply My Class winners. Thank you, APS, for investing in our scholars’ success!

APS Supply My Class winners are K-12 full-time teachers in Arizona Public Service's service territory who are randomly selected to receive a $500 gift card to buy classroom supplies. The program, funded by APS shareholders, aims to help teachers who often spend their own money on classroom needs, ensuring students have the resources necessary for success.

Parent/Teacher Conferences - October 13-14

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday - Tuesday, October 13-14. These evaluation conferences run 15 minutes as you meet with your child's homeroom teachers. You may also sign up to meet with specials teachers during conference week. The evaluation meetings are designed so your child's teacher may further describe their academic performance and discuss any questions you may have. These conferences are for parents/guardians only. Students should not be on campus on conference days.

If you haven't already done so, you will need to create an account in Membership ToolKit (MTK) in order to sign-up. You may need to update your student's grade/homeroom to view this year's sign-ups. Reach out to Lisa Regan at lregan@archwaytrivium.org with MTK questions.

Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have any questions or for information regarding conferences.

Quarter 1 Student Evaluations

K-5 student evaluations for Quarter 1 will be available by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 10 in the Powerschool Parent Portal. We ask that parents please log on to the parent portal before the office closes for fall break to ensure that you are able to access your account to view your child's evaluations. A successful login attempt will result in a message indicating the portal is closed. The portal will remain disabled until evaluations go out. At that time, the portal will be opened temporarily for you to view your students' report card(s). You will be notified by email on October 10 when evaluations are ready to view.

  • If your child was a student at Archway Trivium last year, you will use the same login as last year.
  • If you have new students for the 2025-26 school year (example: returning 4th grader but a new kindergartener or new from outside of the Great Hearts network), you received an email with their Access ID and Password information to add them to your existing account on Tuesday, September 23.
  • If you are new to Archway Trivium this year but attended another Great Hearts school last year, you will still use the same login and password that you used last year.

You can access the Powerschool Parent Portal website here. We have found that using Google Chrome or Firefox as your web browser is best. Please reach out to Stefany Dean at sdean@archwaytrivium.org if you have any questions about your Powerschool Parent Portal account.

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
