A Message from the Headmaster

Dr. Scott's Trivium 3

Brianna, 2nd grade and Kindergarten scholars:

I get why kids have to walk in lines. There needs to be order. But why can’t they talk quietly with a friend as they go? And why do they have to keep their hands folded?

I appreciate the inquiry. There are very practical reasons for the way we walk in line. In the specific aspects you are asking about, even a small whisper multiplied by 30 becomes noisy, and unfolded hands tend to find their way onto others. However, like many things, our aim is higher than the pragmatic. We believe that by expecting scholars to perform well in many small and simple ways they can develop habits of order that will be to their advantage throughout their lives. One of the hardest things for a child in any era, but especially in our time of fully saturated stimulation, is to be still both physically and mentally. Our attention to precision in lines, proper pencil grip, and scholarly position is gift to the adult versions of these children.

Brigette, 4th and 1st grade and Kindergarten scholars:

Not a question, but I want to share how much my children love the class celebrations. My first grader is really looking forward to the space exploration day this week.

Thank you Bridgette! I’m not sure if you were one of the parents who came in yesterday after school to help decorate the classrooms, but I would like to extend thanks to all who did as well as parents who have supported the many such activities we host in any given year. From what I saw, the space exploration day and the kindergarten field trip both went very well. It was great to see the joy and excitement on their faces as they moved through the various activities.

Elena, 5th grade scholar:

If Archway is a public school, why are you always asking for donations?

As a public charter school, Archway Trivium receives less funding per pupil than neighboring schools that are part of districts. This is why we need extra help in filling the financial needs of our academy. Our goal this year is less about dollar amount and more about encouraging every family to participate at whatever level they can. We never had 300 different families (which is still only about ½ of our total families) participate in our Community Investment campaign, but I would like this to be the year to make it happen. Let’s all step up and make this happen for our children!

The Book Fair is Coming! November 5-7

The annual Paper Pie book fair will be held in the school library during school hours on November 5-7. From set up, assisting scholars while shopping, and tear down, parent volunteers are needed to help this event run smoothly! Classroom visits are indicated on the sign up so you may volunteer for the time block when your scholar’s classroom comes.

Volunteer to Support the Book Fair

This year, we also have an online option to pre-pay and send funds electronically if you’re not comfortable sending cash with your scholar. Please be sure you still fill out the envelope that was sent home this week with your scholar as that is their “ticket” to attend the book fair.

Pre-pay for the Book Fair

The book fair will also be open during the Winter music concerts on Tuesday, November 4, from 2-7 pm. Parents and scholars will be able to shop together during this time. All scholars must have an adult present with them while shopping on Tuesday. This is a great chance to get a jump start on holiday shopping as well.

Literary and Historical Figure Day - Friday, November 14

Save the Date for our annual Literary & Historical Figure Day on Friday, November 14. Scholars are invited to choose a literary or historical figure from the Archway curriculum and come to school dressed as that figure* on Friday, November 14. This is a great way to celebrate our love of history and literature. All students are encouraged to participate!

Please Note: Students must complete and return a Costume Proposal Form to their classroom teacher in order to participate.

*Please remember that the character you choose should be from one of the Classics-to-Keep from the K-12 list, Greek or Roman Mythology or a historical character from our History or Science curriculum. It’s preferred, but not required, that your character looks like the author’s description of the character and not a movie version. If your costume will be at all see through, you must wear your uniform underneath. If you choose not to participate, you will need to come in uniform.

*All costumes must abide by dress code guidelines in the Family Handbook and must exclude any frightening or aggressive costumes or accessories.

At Archway Trivium we have various days throughout the year where students are encourage to come dressed in costumes that center around our curriculum. We do not allow costumes to celebrate holidays like Halloween.

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
