A Message from the Headmaster

The Transcendental Report

Truth

This week I witnessed fifth grade students adding mixed numbers with unlike denominators! I realize that my excitement in this matter places me in a very small minority. The idea of a denominator is fantastic! We say that we cannot compare apples to oranges, and this core idea of logic is taught as scholars learn to work with denominators. Five apples and three oranges cannot be added any more than 5/7 could be added to 3/5 because fifths and sevenths and as different as apples and oranges. Our students learned basic mathematics, but they really learned a key element of logic that they will carry throughout their lives.

Goodness

This week we hosted three other headmasters on a visit, and on a separate occasion, we hosted a university professor. Each of them was impressed with the intricacy of our intervention programs. At Archway Trivium, our commitment to academic and behavioral intervention is a matter of morality. We believe that the best education a child can receive is a liberal arts education delivered according to classical principles, and we believe it is our moral responsibility to provide that for all students regardless of their challenges.

Beauty

Beauty is sometimes identified as the tension between something that is both strong and delicate. The delicacy of a spider web gives it much more natural beauty than another structure of the same shape. Likewise the grace of a ballet dancer’s movements belie tremendous strength. This week I noticed this kind of beauty in the leadership of our teachers in the classroom. Soft and gentle kindness is woven seamlessly with disciplined attention to detail and rigorous instruction.

Heartily devoted,

Clay Scott, Ed.D.

Communication Updates

Latest News image.png

School Messenger Communication

Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.

Email Communications

If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.

You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
