A Message from the Headmaster
Dear Archway Trivium Families,
In our entryway, just outside the MPR, we have a print of Jacques-Louis David’s masterpiece, The Death of Socrates. I set the piece there to highlight one of our core virtues, integrity. In the painting we see Socrates carrying out his own execution. Having been condemned to death for “corrupting the youth of Athens” and blaspheming the gods, Socrates was sentenced to drink a fatal mixture of hemlock. In Plato’s Apology we read Socrates’ bold defense of his actions and the actions of any person who chooses to do what is right and good, especially when that choice is unpopular or even illegal. So convincing was his argument that many of his accusers hoped that Socrates would slip away in the night so they would not have his blood on their hands. In fact, Socrates had friends who bribed guards and hatched an extremely simple escape plan. In Crito, a follow-up to the Apology, Socrates explains why he cannot leave and how the most honorable thing to do is to carry out the sentence. He argues that because human beings live in society, we must have order if virtue is ever to exist, both within ourselves and within our cities. Therefore, it would be worse for Socrates to violate the sanctity of the law, even when he disagrees with that law. So, Socrates demonstrated integrity by doing what was right and lawful, even though it meant giving up his life. This is a supreme example of integrity. I hope this was edifying for each of you, and I hope you enjoy a pleasant weekend!
Heartily Devoted,
Clay Scott, Ed. D.

Our Headmasters have had some fun this week raising awareness for Community Investment through their newly-formed rock band, "The Round Table." In case you missed it, check out their videos on Facebook or Instagram. But don't stop there! Your student's classical liberal arts education is made possible by parents and community members like you who unify us through giving to our Community Investment campaign each year. We need everyone to participate as every donation, regardless of the size, goes a long way to keeping our school fully funded.
Thank you to every family in our community who has already partnered with us to provide the important work being done in your student's classroom each day.
Let’s rally for Unity in our Community with gifts to Community Investment and grow a beautiful culture of generosity for our children together.

Parent/Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday - Tuesday, October 14-15. These evaluation conferences run 15 minutes as you meet with your child's homeroom teachers. You may also sign up to meet with specials teachers during conference week. The evaluation meetings are designed so your child's teacher may further describe their academic performance and discuss any questions you may have. These conferences are for parents/guardians only. Students should not be on campus on conference days. Teachers will reach out directly when conference sign-ups are available and links will be added to our school website in the coming week. Quarter 1 Student Evaluations |
K-5 student evaluations for Quarter 1 will be available by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 11 in the Powerschool Parent Portal. We ask that parents please log on to the parent portal before the office closes for fall break to ensure that you are able to access your account to view your child's evaluations. A successful login attempt will result in a message indicating the portal is closed. The portal will remain disabled until evaluations go out. At that time, the portal will be opened temporarily for you to view your students' report card(s). You will be notified by email on October 11 when evaluations are ready to view.
- If your child was a student at Archway Trivium last year, you will use the same login as last year.
- If you have new students for the 2024-25 school year (example: returning 4th grader but a new kindergartener or new from outside of the Great Hearts network), you will receive an email with their Access ID and Password information to add them to your existing account by Wednesday, September 25.
- If you are new to Archway Trivium this year but attended another Great Hearts school last year, you will still use the same login and password that you used last year.
You can access the Powerschool Parent Portal website here. We have found that using Google Chrome or Firefox as your web browser is best. Please reach out to Stefany Dean at sdean@archwaytrivium.org if you have any questions about your Powerschool Parent Portal account.

School Messenger Communication
Great Hearts and Archway Trivium continue to utilize the system School Messenger for emails, robo-calls, and text messaging to inform families of campus related academy emergencies and other communications. SchoolMessenger has a new automatic opt-in for text feature. During the registration/re-enrollment process families confirmed their wish to participate in text communications. Great Hearts will now automatically opt in contact information given during the registration/re-enrollment process with the options you selected. You will notice at the beginning of July you will be opted in for text messaging. If you would like to opt out of text messages simply reply STOP to the text from 67585. You can also enter the code 67585 with the message STOP to block any text messaging. Please note, if opting out, you will not receive texts regarding emergencies on campus.
Email Communications
If you know of parents who are not receiving these communications, please ask them to check their junk/promotions email folders, and then email bmcdonald@archwaytrivium.org for assistance.
You can also find ALL school-wide communications on our website on the Latest News page.
