A Message from Headmaster Scott
Dear Archway Trivium West Families,
Students long for order in their lives, and habits of personal order cultivate habits of intellectual order.
Dear Archway Trivium West Families,
A couple years ago I had the opportunity to drive my family through Rocky Mountain National Park. We entered the park on the west side even though our reserved campsite was on the east side. This allowed us to pass through and enjoy the vast beauty of the park. The clouds overhead dimmed our view just enough to provided the perfect ambiance to enjoy the lush green grass, towering trees and abundance of large, hoofed creatures presented within the sublime mountain grandeur. As we climbed to the higher parts of the drive we came to narrow roads with steep drop-offs, often without any guardrails. This made me nervous. I drove more slowly and paid less attention to the beauty around me and more to the road itself. As the rain began to fall I slowed to a crawl, my grip on the steering wheel tightened, and I forgot about the beauty of the mountains. At that point, I could only see their dangers.
Today, I would like to present this as a story about a guardrail. For want of a guardrail I missed the opportunity to be inspired by some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world. In fact, I saw danger in place of beauty. As unfortunate as this experience was, it presents an analogy for something far more significant. The habits of order that we cultivate in our children act as guardrails in their intellectual journey. When they feel safe, they are free to vigorously pursue the intellectual and moral virtue we desire for them. This is why we walk in lines, sit in scholarly position, listen attentively to classmates, tuck in our shirts, and wait our turn. Doing so allows them to focus on the brilliant rather than the tedious, the sublime rather than the mundane, the virtuous rather than the common. This week, let’s take a moment to appreciate the rules, expectations, and routines that allow us to more fully experience truth, goodness, and beauty.
Heartily Devoted,
Dr. Clay Scott

At Great Hearts, we are committed to teaching our students to live a life full of truth, beauty, and goodness. As a not-for-profit charter school, we receive more than $1,500 less per scholar than a public school receives from the state each year. Our classical liberal arts education is made possible by parents and community members who unify us by giving to our Community Investment Campaign each year.
Thank you to every family that has already partnered with us to provide the important work being done in the classroom each and every day. Let's rally "Unity in our Community" with gifts to Community Investment so that we may continue to grow a beautiful culture of generosity for our children together. Set up a one-time or monthly tax-deductible gift today. Thank you so much! Please contact Annann Hong, our Academy Giving Manager, at ahong@archwaytrivium.org or (773) 307-6779 if you have any questions!

The Usborne Read-a-thon and Book Fair are coming up! The annual Read-a-thon will be held October 1 - 10. Read-a-thon packets will be sent home with Archway scholars next week. More details will follow after fall break.
Also, Save the Date for our first annual Literary & Historical Figure Day on Friday, November 12. Parent/Teacher Conferences - October 12-13 |
Conferences will be held on Tuesday - Wednesday, October 12-13. These evaluation conferences run 15 minutes as you meet with your child's homeroom teachers. You may also sign up to meet with specials teachers during conference week. Quarter 1 Student Evaluations | |
K-5 student evaluations for Quarter 1 will be available by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 8 in the Powerschool Parent Portal. We ask that parents please log on to the parent portal before the office closes for fall break to ensure that you are able to access your child's evaluations. A successful login attempt will result in a message indicating the portal is closed. The portal will remain disabled until evaluations go out. At that time, the portal will be opened temporarily for you to view your students' report card(s). You will be notified by email on October 8 when evaluations are ready to view.
- If your child was a student at ATW last year, you will use the same login as last year.
- If you have new students for the 2020-2021 school year (example: returning 4th grader but a new kindergartener or new from outside of the Great Hearts network), you will receive an email with their Access ID and Password information to add them to your existing account by Wednesday, September 29.
- If you are new to Archway Trivium West this year but attended another Great Hearts school last year, you will still use the same login and password that you used last year.
You can access the Powerschool Parent Portal website here. We have found that using Google Chrome or Firefox as your web browser is best. Please reach out to Stefany Dean at sdean@archwaytrivium.org if you have any questions about your Powerschool Parent Portal account.

Thank you for your patience and caution during student drop-off and pick-up. The safety of our students and staff is of the utmost importance.
As a reminder, to minimize the backup of traffic on Encanto/Bullard before the end of the school day, we are closing the Encanto entrance to our school parking lot from 2:35-3:00pm. Goodyear Police will be monitoring traffic on Encanto and Bullard during this time, and if you are stopped on one of these roads waiting to enter campus, you may be ticketed.
On Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday, families who are picking up Archway-only students should arrive to campus AFTER 3:10 PM. Families picking up both Archway and Prep students, please remind your Prep students to arrive to the pick-up zone promptly.
On Wednesdays, families picking up BOTH Archway and Prep students are asked to arrive AFTER 1:40 PM. On Wednesdays, families picking up Archway-only should arrive at 1:25PM.
Parents picking up Archway students from school MUST use the Archway pickup line. Prep students picking up Archway students to meet a parent driver may NOT load into a car in the Prep pick-up line or on Palm Lane. The entrance/exit to our parking lot from Encanto Blvd is right turn only.
Please review the following links for the modified Traffic Flow and reach out to the front office with any questions.
