A Note from Headmaster Scott
|
Dear Archway Trivium Families,
There have been many thinkers in both eastern and western traditions that have emphasized the importance of being at peace with things as they are. We see this in philosophies that highlight nature and the simple life. An extreme example is Diogenes, one of the founders of Cynicism. Our English word “cynic” comes from the Greek kynikos, meaning dog-like, perhaps because Diogenes essentially lived his life as a stray dog. For him, all human social structures are corrupt and the only path to happiness is to accept everything that happens without pleasure or disdain.
In general, I would agree that being able to attain peace within your circumstance is a good thing. However, I do not believe that such a life can lead to flourishing. Being content with where we are does not mean we have to stay there. Furthermore, contentedness is not happiness, and it most certainly is not flourishing. Happiness and flourishing require struggle against our basal natures as we daily work to recreate ourselves as better human beings capable of greater levels of happiness.
This is why, in my view, there is nothing more beautiful than a human being working past perceived limits to expand capacity. This happens every day at Archway Trivium, and not just with students. We expect students to push beyond their current abilities to develop new ones, but the teachers are pushing equally hard. Furthermore, parents push to understand Singapore math, learn phonograms, and otherwise keep up with their children’s studies. Archway Trivium is a truly beautiful place. It is a place where growth, struggle, and peace happen every single day. Thank you for making it what it is.
Heartily Devoted,
Clay Scott

Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off/Pick-up
With the expansion of Archway and addition of the new building, there are significant changes to the traffic flow for the upcoming school year. Please carefully review the new Archway Traffic Flow for Student Drop-off and Pick-up and reach out with any questions. Taking the time to understand these procedures will help to ensure the safety of our students/staff and a smooth traffic flow.
Carpooling Update: Our east side pick-up lane has had a faster track and will now be our designated carpool lane.
If you have 2 or more Archway ONLY pick-up cards, you will be guided into this fast-track lane for a faster pick-up. Please be sure to have your pick-up cards ready to show our traffic controllers that you are carpooling so they can guide you to the appropriate lane. To maintain the flow of pick-up, others may be directed to the fast-track lane, but carpools will be given priority. Please do not enter the carpool lanes until you are directed to do so.
As a reminder, if you are picking up Middle School students DO NOT ARRIVE to campus before 3:15 PM. This creates significant delays. If you arrive before 3:15, we will ask you to go back into our pick-up lanes and try again.
Please follow the link below to review the DETAILED Archway Traffic Flow Plan and be sure to share this link with anyone authorized to drop-off/pick-up your children.
