General Knowledge
If you missed the meeting last night, you missed a whopper! The topics on the agenda ranged from how many sheep constitute a herd to how long our weather machine will keep it warm enough to go swimming. Not really, but there was a question about how many sheep will be coming this spring. Let’s jump in!
First, as has become our practice, we shared some key performance indicators. In the month of January, Compliance sent out 50 courtesy notices and 15 call to hearings. We called 53 members and managed 178 open compliance cases, while closing 36 cases. Maintenance completed 310 work orders, 5 of which were responses to member requests. Last, but not least, the gate & mussel staff processed 2,839 guests and performed 293 mussel inspections.
Item 2:
The Board approved the bid package that will be sent out to prospective builders of our new office building. After some analysis, there is an opportunity to save money over a 30-year period if we build a new office building, rather than lease our current space. The Board previously approved moving forward with the Village Center location next to the big pool. The action last night was the next step in the process. It won’t cost very much money at this time, and we expect to return to the board with proposals that can be evaluated.
Item 3:
The Board approved a 5-year lease with J.B. Jaureguy that ensures we will have the help of his sheep in our annual weed abatement program. At zero dollars, you might say it is a bleating good deal. Or you might not, who knows. My wife likes puns, and she reads the Friday flyer religiously.
Items 4 and 5:
The Board approved the dates for the boating and pool seasons, April 3rd to September 27th, and May 22nd to September 27th, respectively. These dates are subject to change based on weather conditions, alien invasion, etc.
Item 6:
The Board gave direction to return in March with more information about enhancing our entry software and hardware for amenities and gates. We are currently utilizing very antiquated technology, and this would represent a huge technological jump forward that would improve member convenience and save on labor costs. You would be able to add your own license plate into the system and drive through the gates without having to swipe a card. No more getting soaked in the rain at the main gate…
Item 7:
The Board gave direction to return in March with more information about enhancing our security cameras at the gates and marina. The proposal we are refining works directly with law enforcement and saves significant labor costs. Basically, if you rob a bank in Paso, then the sheriff will be waiting for you at home if we get this new system. Please plan your felonies accordingly.
There were a number of member comments and clarifications, and if you want to check it all out, the video is still available.
Hope to see you around the Ranch!
