Dolly, Tim, and Optimus Prime!? Not sure about you, but my childhood memories took some hits this week. I think family movie night might get extended to a movie marathon of 9 to 5, Rocky Horror Picture Show, and Transformers in their honor. I was just reminded by Spotify that Dolly recorded a special duet version of “Home Sweet Home” with Mötley Crüe last year, and listening to it might be the most poignant moment of my week. Cloudy skies seem an appropriate way to close out this week.
If you were too busy grieving our collective losses last night, the good news is that like the weather in CA, clearer skies are ahead for the HROA. The Board meeting action items began with the Consent Agenda and moved on to the appointments of officers. Our President and Vice President are Masen Yaffee and Tom Swanson, respectively. Lisa Ptaszenski will continue her role as Secretary. Anyone who has spent decades correcting the spelling and pronunciation of Ptaszenski is perfect for making sure we dot all our i’s and cross all our t’s. Finally, jumping in with both feet, Denise Revell accepted the nomination as Treasurer. She mentioned to me that she was very happy that former treasurers Doreen Marty and Scott Keller will be joining her, Director Dan Haulman and Laura Linda Strictland on the Finance Committee. I joked with Scott that he probably feels like Al Pacino in The Godfather 3, “just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!”
The board also approved the expenditure of over $600k with Viborg Sand and Gravel for road repairs on Heritage Loop Rd., Heritage Rd., Valley Ln., the lower marina parking lot, and Equestrian Rd. Initially, we were planning to repair sections of Heritage Rd., but with the coming super El Niño, we are pushing for approval from the State Water Board and other regulatory agencies to get the Equestrian land bridge work done before the end of this year.
As a result of all of this work, we will be relaunching our projects page next week and overcommunicating by email and through the SnapHOA portal about any planned road closures. Please make sure your contact information is up to date and that your text notifications are enabled. We won’t spam you with offers or sell your phone number to telemarketers. We just want to keep you informed, maybe send you a note on your birthday. Kidding about the birthday message, but wouldn’t that be cool.
Speaking of cool, the board closed out the rest of the meeting by appointing members to the Architectural and Environmental Control, Community Engagement, Emergency Services, Finance, Marina, and Strategic Planning Committees. Between the board and committees, I am blown away by the sheer number of dedicated members who volunteer hours of their time every month serving our community. We appreciate you!
Have a great weekend!
