“Sounds” By: Mrs. Cooper

The students have explored the theme of Sound through the study of the abstract, Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky. He is known for his visual interpretations of musical compositions through color, geometric shapes and lines to create a sense of rhythm and emotional experience.

We recently had a donation of old LP records that were going to be trashed. We talked about the way these records played music and how technology has had so many advances that now music is heard digitally. Using these records as canvases really connected the children to interpreting the sounds into color, lines and shapes. Listening to jazz in the classroom, they've created these wonderful art pieces for all of you to dive into their creative, emotional world of sound through color.

Suggested donation: $15-$100

MLK Jr. Day of Service Recap

Our Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service was truly a meaningful day for our community. Despite wintry weather, families came together to honor Dr. King through learning, service, and collaboration. Participants explored Dr. King’s legacy, engaged in an equity versus equality demonstration, and worked together to assemble puzzles featuring his powerful words. As a community, we packed hygiene, snack, and school supply bags for Youth Valley House, the Boys & Girls Club of America, and Cradles to Crayons. We also wrote cards and created bracelets to children in the hospital. It was a wonderful reminder of the joy and impact of working together in service of others. A special thank you to Devan Trinkley, Jenny Limm, Manali Shah, and Nancy Chacko who organized the event!

Guidelines for Sick Children

We follow guidance from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) on when children should stay home from school due to illness.

Please keep your child home if they have any of the following:

  1. Fever of 100.4°F (38°C) or higher. Children should be fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before returning to school.
  2. Vomiting or diarrhea. Children should stay home until they have been free of vomiting and diarrhea for at least 24 hours.
  3. Severe cough, difficulty breathing, or wheezing that interferes with participation in school activities.
  4. Signs of a contagious illness such as strep throat, influenza, COVID-19, RSV, chickenpox, or other illnesses as advised by your healthcare provider.
  5. Eye redness with thick drainage (possible conjunctivitis) until evaluated and cleared to return.
  6. Undiagnosed rash with fever or behavior changes.
  7. Extreme fatigue, pain, or irritability that prevents your child from participating in normal school activities.

Childre may return to school when symptoms have improved, they feel well enough to participate, and any required treatment or exclusion period has been completed. If you are unsure whether your child should stay home, please consult your child's healthcare provider.
