Receive free Consulting Services!
Iowa JPEC's business consulting program provides strategic management consulting services to alumni and Iowa-based businesses and organizations. Student teams, who are led and evaluated by experienced faculty and mentors, create innovative solutions to unique problems for both emerging and established companies.
They are currently
accepting applications for clients to receive services this Fall. Additional details can be found below.
How it Works:
- Program structured around an academic semester (fall/spring/or summer)
- Business Consulting is a college course where student teams will work on your projects for approx. 120-150 hours throughout the semester.
- Teams of 3-5 students are led and evaluated by experienced faculty and mentors throughout the class. Students will communicate with the client regularly to share progress reports and obtain feedback from the client. The course concludes with a final student presentation to the clients.
- This program is offered at no cost to the business. However, each client is expected to dedicate 2-3 hours per week to the student team.
As a client, you will receive the following:
- Competitive analysis
- Environmental analysis
- Insights from an expert
- Student team mentorship from experienced professionals
- Actionable recommendations
In addition to the services listed above, each client can select one other area of research. Options include:
- Market trend analysis
- Consumer behavior research
- Observational study on customers
- Social media strategy
- Marketing/digital marketing strategy
- Product/service growth strategy

Partnership Perk — Education and Professional Development Offerings
Through the dual membership with the Downtown Chamber and Greater Des Moines Partnership, you have access to numerous educational and professional development offerings throughout the year. Offerings span a wide variety of topics, including marketing plans, implementing internships, human resource issues and inclusion. These educational opportunities are offered both via webinar and in person.
The goal is to provide you with just-in-time information on pertinent business operations and emerging trends, but also to encourage you to step outside of your business for
an hour or
a day to recharge
or bring back new ideas to your business.
This year, we are excited to offer two series focusing on small business.
·
The
First Friday Series
features interviews from savvy, successful small business owners in Greater Des Moines (DSM) on the first Friday of every month. The First Friday series allows for attendees to catch words of wisdom from small business owners who have been through it before and connect with fellow attendees in a laid-back environment.
·
The
Top Five for Small Business Series
focuses on issues that small businesses face. The series features presentations to inform, educate and inspire business owners in DSM. The events focus on a variety of timely topics that affect small business owners and managers including legal, human resources, information technology, marketing, accounting and other pressing issues.

This year's campaign starts October 1st!
TRC Sponsorship Renewals
Downtown Chamber volunteers are gearing up for the annual Total Resource Campaign (TRC)! If you were a sponsor, event host, or secured services this year through the campaign last fall, note that a volunteer will be reaching out to you between now and October 1st to offer you first rights of refusal for your sponsorship prior to the campaign's start.
What is TRC?
TRC is a 6-week program where 2020 sponsorship and hosting opportunities become available. These special opportunities secure exposure for your business, build professional and communication skills, and impact the community. This is the only time members can purchase sponsorships during the year.
When is TRC?
On October 1st, the official campaign will begin. Be thinking about your budget for hosting, sponsorship, and other visibility options through the Downtown Chamber so you can take advantage of these opportunities. During the campaign is the only time that they will be available.
Who is involved in TRC?
The TRC Campaign is also excellent for our volunteers! We offer fun team-building activities each week, motivational speakers, and social time to connect with other volunteers. Volunteering grants access to new contacts, develops and improves sales and presentation skills, and creates the opportunity to impact community initiatives. The Downtown Chamber is seeking donations for prizes and gifts to reward our volunteers. If you would like to donate a volunteer prize or gift, or if any of your or a member of your team would be interested in representing your business as one of our
volunteers
,
please let us know.
The TRC Campaign is important to the Downtown Chamber's growth in programming, member services, and community impact. We look forward to connecting with you!
