You're Invited! Coffee Cart – Friday, February 7

MacLaren's Parent Service Association (PSA) invites parents to join its monthly coffee gathering at morning drop-off. Join other parents on the Plaza for coffee and conversation. Please bring your own mug/cup. Parents are also welcome to join the 8:00 a.m. Lower School Morning Assembly on Coffee Cart Fridays. Please allow time for check-in at the Main Entrance or at the gym if you intend to stay for Assembly. Check-in is not required for the Coffee Cart gathering.

Indoor Field Day – February 13, No school – February 14 and 17

Indoor Field Day is Thursday, February 13, and is a half-day for all students. Students will enjoy games, hands-on academic challenges, and friendly competition with their classmates. 

As lunch will not be served, please send your children to school with water and a hearty snack. Please pick up your children with your placard in view, and according to this schedule:

Lower School only: 11:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m.

Lower School and Upper School combined: 12:00-12:10 p.m.

Upper School only: 12:10-12:20 p.m.

Upper School Clubs and After School Study Hall will not meet on February 13. Please make other arrangements.

There is no school Friday, February 14, because it is a teacher in-service day, and Monday, February 17, in observance of Presidents' Day.

School Immunization Information

The Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment provides annual information on immunizations, including required and recommended vaccines for public school students and the exemption process. Full details and a report of MacLaren's immunization rate can be found on the Immunization page of the website. The letter is available in English, Spanish, Korean, and Arabic.

We Love Grandparents!

Have your child's grandparents joined MacLaren's GrandPartners Club? GrandPartners receive updates on school happenings and invitations to special events. It's a great way for grandparents near and far, and adults filling grandparent roles, to feel more connected to their grandchild's school life.

Illness Guidelines

We have entered the season of lots of illnesses going around our community. Please remind your children to wash their hands frequently and cover coughs and sneezes. Refer to MacLaren's Illness Guidelines to determine when to keep students home due to illness. If you have any questions, please contact the school nurse.

Kids and Screens

Studies show that excessive video game playing can contribute to poor sleep and impact attention, academic performance, mood, and well-being. Exposure to violent video games can contribute to aggressive behaviors in kids. Playing video games for long periods of time has also been linked with developing obesity. If your child’s gaming is having negative effects, it may be time to enforce some limits. The Akron Institute recommends limiting video games to one hour a day during the week and up to two hours on weekends.

Pack Slippers or Fuzzy Socks – Friday, February 7

February Festival returns to Lower School, bringing winter-themed whimsy to Lower School classrooms. Please send your child to school in normal uniform shoes but with a pair of slippers or fuzzy socks in his or her backpack to change into. *For K-2 students, if your child has Velcro or slip-on tennis shoes, please send those on this day. This will make changing in and out of slippers much more manageable!

Come support our Highlanders at our HOME events! HS event admission is $6 for K-12 and senior citizens, $7 for adults. MS event admission is $2 for K-12, senior citizens are free, $3 for adults.

Last semester we shared the impact of the Masters Fund and the way it provides a semester-end bonus for faculty and staff. The MacLaren community responded, contributing $82,803 to the Masters Fund! Thank you for your generosity and for demonstrating your appreciation of our staff members in such a tangible way.
