Friday Funny ... Friday Laugh 5/6/2022
Dodge Park (since 1967) and The Oasis at Dodge Park (since 2016), has been serving the Worcester area as the most professional, ethical and highest quality care facility for the elderly. We are committed to listening and responding to the needs of the residents, the family members and our employees. We are committed to going the extra mile when assistance is required by the public, the residents and their family members.
Dear Micha,
It is now going on almost two months that my brother Ricky has been at Dodge Park. Everything that you have said about how he would be cared for has been true.
This is a fantastic place that understands the horrible and devestating dimentia is. I have visited once a week and every time I go home knowing that Ricky is in the best place for him.
You hire compassionate ,loving care givers that allow Ricky to experience a dignity that is not always shown to this population.
I have visited with my husband, my younger brother and my daughter..... each visit ends with the conclusion that this is truly a remarkable place.
Today I got a chance to chat with Carrie. She was honest about the challenges facing Ricky. However, there was no doubt that she and her team will do everything possible to make Ricky's life as comfortable as possible.
From the minute we are greeted at the door for our Covid-19 test to the entry into the family visiting room, all attendants are happy, helpful and kind.
Thank you for this and thank you for being a beacon of hope to so many that just want to know that their loved ones are understood and safe.
With much appreciation,
Paulette on behalf of my brother Ricky

Dodge Park Rest Home and The Oasis at Dodge Park Named “Caring Super Star of 2022” as Top Senior Living Communities

Positive Consumer Ratings Led to Industry-Leading Distinction from Caring.com

Worcester, MA December 1, 2021 — Caring.com, the nation’s top web site for senior care referrals and information announced today it has selected Dodge Park Rest Home and The Oasis at Dodge Park as "Caring Super Stars of 2022” for excellence in senior care living.

Both residential facilities earned 5-star ratings (the highest possible score) as voted by family caregivers in the national survey making them some of the highest rated facilities in the survey.

  • Dodge Park and Oasis at Dodge Park are two of only six senior living facilities in all of Massachusetts to earn the Super Star Award in 2022

  • Dodge Park and Oasis at Dodge Park are two of only three senior living facilities in all of Central Massachusetts to earn the Super Star Award in 2022

Two Communities – One Unparralled Level of Care and Service
"At both Dodge Park Rest Home and the Oasis at Dodge Park, we strive every day to deliver high-quality care and services for our residents. These awards help validate our delivery on that promise,” said Micha Shalev co-owner and administrator of Dodge Park Rest Home and the Oasis at Dodge Park. "On behalf of our community, staff and leadership, thank you to those who shared positive feedback about the services we offer, and to Caring.com for recognizing both of our facilities.”

Online reviews help relied on these perspectives as much as or more so than in-person recommendations from geriatric professionals or medical personnel.

Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, Caring.com saw an increase in consumers willing to share their online review, publishing 58% more reviews per month on average in 2021 than in the same period in 2019.
Some of the positive feedback that led Dodge Park and the Oasis at Dodge Park to win include:

“We transitioned my father to the Oasis at Dodge Park three months ago as his Alzheimer's had advanced and he needed a higher level of care than his traditional assisted living community could provide but was not ready for a nursing home. Thanks to the team approach at Oasis, we have seen a dramatic improvement in my dad's health and well being in the short time that he has been there.”

“My Mother is very well taken care of, the food is great, and the staff is excellent.”

“Mom is so happy in her new home surrounded by a staff that treats her like family! We are so grateful and the peace of mind we have found at Oasis is priceless!”

“To see such transformation in mom so quickly. She is looking more focused and has her smile back. She has made friends. Her caregivers have gotten her out of a wheelchair and walking around. Their communication with the family is constant.”

May 2022 Calendar
ALS Awareness Month. Numerous organizations and communities get together to spread awareness of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare neurological disease affecting nerve cells that control voluntary muscle movement. Though there is no cure for ALS, early detection can help in improving the quality of life of those with the disease.

Lupus Awareness Month. An opportunity for the lupus community to join together across the country to raise funds and awareness of the physical, emotional, and economic impact of lupus. There are many ways to help make lupus visible in May, from sharing your story on social media to starting a fundraiser or making a donation.

Military Appreciation Month. Congress designated May as National Military Appreciation Month in 1999 to ensure the nation was given the chance to publicly show its appreciation for troops past and present. May was chosen because it has many individual days marked to note the military's achievements.

National Inventors Month. National Inventors Month was started in 1998 to help promote a positive image of inventors and the contributions they give to this world. “We want to recognize those talented, brave individuals who dare to be blatantly creative, and therefore different, and whose accomplishments affect every facet of our lives," says Joanne Hayes-Rines, editor of Inventors' Digest and a sponsor of National Inventors Month.

Dig for the truth behind health headlines
You can find lots of health information in the newspaper, on TV, and online, but how much of it can you trust? Harvard Medical School offers this guidance on sorting out the claims:
• Look at what was studied. A promising treatment is pronounced “safe”—but was it tested on humans? A story can hide the fact that a new drug has so far only been tested on mice or other animals, and that human treatment is years away.
• Be wary of dramatic language. Headlines may announce a “breakthrough” procedure or a “groundbreaking” solution. Sudden breakthroughs, though, are rare in science. Most progress comes slowly, so don’t jump on the bandwagon of the latest sensational “cure.”
• Don’t mix association and causation. Scientists may discover a link between a particular kind of behavior and a disease. That doesn’t necessarily mean that one causes the other. Many people who suffer from ulcers take aspirin, ibuprofen, and other drugs to treat severe headaches, for example. That doesn’t necessarily mean that aspirin causes ulcers. Don’t jump to conclusions.
• Check the timeline. A new drug or procedure may offer hope for patients, but that doesn’t mean it’s ready to be put into use right away. Watch for words like “someday” or “in the future,” telling you that an actual cure may be very far off.

Take care of your baby’s cough
A baby’s cough can be worrying for parents, especially in these days of COVID-19, but it’s not necessarily a cause for panic. Coughing is common among very young children. Follow this advice from U.S. News & World Report for taking care of a coughing child:
• Keep nasal passages as clear as possible. Congestion and postnasal drip can make coughing worse, especially during naps. Use a bulb aspirator for children who can’t blow their own noses yet.
• Use a humidifier. A cool-mist humidifier can help keep your child’s airways moist and reduce coughing.
• Give lots of liquids. Keep children well hydrated with water or juice. Warm decaffeinated tea can also eliminate the tickle that causes coughing. If your child turns down liquid, offer him or her a popsicle.
• Try honey before bed. For older children, a spoonful of honey coats the throat and relieves soreness. However, don’t give honey to children under two—in some cases it can cause botulism.
• Keep fever down. Children’s acetaminophen or ibuprofen can ease a fever in young children, but don’t give them any adult cough or cold medicines.
• Watch for these concerns. Consult your doctor if the coughing doesn’t get better, or in these situations:

·        A cough within the first few weeks of life.
·        Coughing with a fever lasting more than five days.
·        A cough lasting for eight weeks.
·        A cough getting worse by the third week.
·        Difficulty breathing, or labored breathing.
·        Night sweats.
·        Weight loss.
·        Coughing up blood.
·        A hacking cough without wheezing or fast breathing
·        A cough and stuffy nose for more than 10 days without improvement.

If your child is having difficulty breathing, is unresponsive, or unable to eat or drink, seek medical attention right away.

Choosing the Right Senior Health Care Facility
Many things should be considered when selecting a senior health care facility for your loved one. When Alzheimer’s and Dementia are also part of the equation, these questions become even more important. So, when the time comes to choose a senior health care or memory care facility, consider the following most important questions:

  1. What is not included in the daily rate
  2. What conditions can’t they handle (physical, mental & behavior)
  3. Do they have a nurse on site 24/7 for PRN medication (as needed)
  4. What happens when private funds are gone.
The Oasis at Dodge Park Difference
The environment at the Oasis at Dodge Park is Different
Our home-like environment provides opportunities for residents to have privacy, sufficient lighting, pleasant music and multiple opportunities to eat and drink, in small setting, and also minimizes negative stimuli such as loud overhead paging and glare.
Oasis at Dodge Park has private rooms and bathrooms and the opportunity for residents to have personal furnishings, pictures and other items in their living area. This is their life and their home.
When they are able, residents are encouraged to move freely around the facility with opportunities for safe wandering. This will be able to achieve through our unique enclose garden and indoor open recreation area, where the idea is to bring the outdoor indoor.

Selecting The Right Community For
Your Loved One
Download our FREE Guide for choosing a Residential Care Community for your loved one.

One of life’s greatest challenges is deciding when a loved one is no longer capable of living independently. Often, a time of crisis precipitates this decision, such as when the individual is ready to leave the hospital after a serious illness, or when events make it clear that severe limitations exist.

A good starting place for the family and the individual in need is to discuss the options available for best meeting their needs. A hospital social worker, physician or representative of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs may be helpful. Always she has the right to be involved in this consequential decision.

Your Weekly Jokes
Our mission is to amuse you with a wide variety of funny clean jokes, amusing anecdotes and thought provoking images. We also aim to surprise, but never to shock or offend. Our ongoing project is to collect jokes which reflect each month.
I know that we are experience scary time and in uncharted water. I hope I can get you few moment of laugh. We all need this.

The Duck and the bartender
A duck walks into a bar and asks, "Do you have any grapes?"
The bartender says, "No, I‘m sorry. We have cherries and olives, but no grapes."
"Oh," says the duck, and leaves.
Ten minutes later the same duck returns and asks the same bartender, "Do you have any grapes?"
"Like I said before, we have cherries and olives, but we don't have grapes," says the bartender.
"Oh," says the duck, and leaves.
Ten minutes later the duck returns and again asks, "Do you have any grapes?"
"Listen, beak lips!" yells the bartender. "We have no grapes! We will never have grapes! And if you ask me again, I am going to nail your little webbed feet to the floor!"
"Oh," says the duck, and leaves.
Ten minutes later, the door swings open and the duck returns again. The bartender is furious. He slams a bottle of beer down on the bar, stares menacingly at the duck and screams, "What?"
"Uh … uh … do you have any, uh, nails?" the duck asks.
"Nails? Nails? No, we don't have nails," answers the bartender.
"Oh," says the duck. "So, do you have any grapes?"
The Diet
A man was overweight, so his doctor put him on a diet. "I want you to eat regularly for two days, then skip a day, and repeat the procedure for two weeks. The next time I see you, you'll have lost at least five pounds," he instructed.
When the man returned, he’d lost nearly 20 pounds.
"This is amazing!" the doctor said. "Did you follow my instructions?"
The man nodded. "I'll tell you, though, I thought I was going to drop dead after a few days."
"From hunger, you mean?" said the doctor.
"No, from all that skipping," replied the man.
A few one-liners
I bought some shoes from a drug dealer. I don’t know what he laced them with, but I’ve been tripping all day.
My wife told me to stop acting like a flamingo. So I had to put my foot down.
I poured root beer in a square glass. Now I just have beer.
My friend said to me, “What rhymes with orange?” I said, “No, it doesn’t.”
So what if I don’t know what “Armageddon” means? It’s not the end of the world.
Why did the old man fall in the well? Because he couldn’t see that well.
This is my stepladder. I never knew my real ladder.
My friend asked me to help him round up his 37 sheep. I said, “40.”
I’ve been told I’m condescending. That means I talk down to people.
Some people think it’s romantic to carve their names on trees while on a date. I’m more worried about why they’re bringing a knife on a date.
How i learned to mind my own business
A man was walking past a school one day when he heard voices shouting beyond a tall fence: “Thirteen … thirteen … thirteen …”
Curious, he walked up to the fence. It was too high for him to see over, but he found a gap in the planks, so he bent over to peer inside.
Someone poked him in the face with a stick, and then everyone inside started shouting, “Fourteen, fourteen, fourteen …”
