Since January of this year, the AAP has been active in  advocating for appropriate medical care  of asylum seeking children, particularly in the wake of children's death while in the care of Customs and Border Patrol (CBP). After several visits of CBP centers, much attention has been focused on the inhumane conditions within these centers . The risk of death and serious illness along with the significant long term adverse health consequences of detention cannot be ignored.

Tomorrow, Friday July 12th , there is a nation-wide vigil to bring further attention to these atrocities. Visit the Lights for Liberty website to learn more. Vigils will be held in 25+ areas in the California Chapter 1 region. Please check  here  to find a local event and share with each other plans to mobilize the pediatric and medical community.

We need physicians to get out there and activate others! Please wear your white coats and bring your energy to protest against the inhumane conditions that children and families face in these detention centers.
