Join us in congratulating the

Carmel Leadership Class of 2024!

They completed their project this month, a legacy gift to the village, and graduated from the program today. The legacy project included the restoration of the outlook area on the Scenic Pathway at 8th that provides an accessible path from the two handicap parking spots with a viewing area and the restoration of two benches for easier accessibility and enjoyment by the community. A big thank you to Leadership Carmel for their 9-month commitment, fundraising, and collaboration with other community groups and Public Works to complete this thoughtful and wonderful project for the village.

Kid's Summer Reading Program

Predatory Plants!

Yesterday at the kid's library, Teen Services Librarian Sierra introduced us to the world of carnivorous plants (her secret hobby). Most people know or even have had a Venus Flytrap but we found out about Pitcher Plants, Cobra Lilys, Butterworts, and Sundews. It was fascinating to hear how they lure their prey and then enjoy a meal.

Those who came to learn more about these intriguing plants left with one of their own. Thank you Sierra for sharing with us.

The Art of the Puppet

The Fratello Marionettes delivers an interactive presentation on the art of puppetry – from creation to performance. The puppeteers will demonstrate hand puppets, rod puppets, and specialized trick marionettes. After each vignette, they will cover an aspect of the puppet building process. The presentation ends with a look behind the scenes and a Q&A session.

This Week in Public Works

Fuel Management and Pine Restoration

The Forestry crew performed fuel management and pine restoration in upper Forest Hill Park this week. Numerous pine saplings were flagged, and at the appropriate time, will be dug up and used to replant native pines around the Village to replace those which are coming to the end of their life. This is part of our effort to replant one-for-one, like-for-like throughout town.

Mission Trail Nature Preserve Educational Tree Stump

Greg D’Ambrosio and Scott Lonergan of Friends of Mission Trail Nature Preserve have been coordinating with the City Forester, Justin Ono (pictured below), to turn a previously-overturned tree stump into an educational piece to demonstrate root structures in Mission Trail Nature Preserve.

New Roll Up Door in the Public Works Building

The City’s contractor, R&S, installed a new roll-up door in the Public Works yard this week!

Carmel Youth Center

Cleve Waters with the City’s Facilities Maintenance Division, met with children at the Carmel Youth Center to talk about his job’s responsibilities and the joys of service to the community.  In the photo below, Cleve is explaining the various components of the City’s Public Works yard.

Upcoming Meetings:

Here we are once again with the longest days of the year leading us into summer! Hopefully you find a way to make use of all the extra daylight, and have something fun to look forward to over the coming summer months. Be well, do kind things, and of course...

Take good care,

-Brandon
