Oops! Due to a technical difficulty, we didn't get the Friday Letter out exactly on Friday. Sorry for any confusion caused by this delay! Here are the highlights from the Vlog, which WAS recorded on Friday, July 26th:


  • Welcome to Jayme Fields the City's new Finance Manager
  • Chip will be back next week, after a successful back surgery this past Monday

  • Homecrafters' Marketplace jurying will take place at the end of August.
  • Jayme shares some of her background and what a finance manager does. Say hi to her if you see her around town!

City Hall News

Business license renewals are due Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Renewals received after that date will incur penalties.


The license renewal fee is $21.00 and the renewal tax is $1.00 per $1,000 of GROSS revenues for the period July 1, 2023, through June 30, 2024.


Don't forget to include the inspection paperwork requested in the letter, if applicable.

This Week in Public Works

Vista Lobos Window Repaired and ADA Compliant Door knobs upgrade

The Facility Maintenance division replaced the rotted window frame and glass at Vista Lobos this week. They also upgraded ADA compliant door knobs throughout City facilities.

Preparation Work for New Asphalt Berms

Public Works Crew Members, Beau King and Gilbert Tamayo, prepped the area to install new asphalt berms at the corner of Casanova Street and Thirteenth Avenue.

Forestry Removed Dead Trees

This week the Forestry crews removed dead trees on the north end of the Village near the corner of Alta Avenue and Mission Street.

Repaired Tree Wells in Downtown


Public Works continued to repair the tree wells in Downtown Carmel this week by adding decomposed granite to prevent tripping hazards. 

What's Happening at the Library & Community Activities?

If your weekend isn’t already booked… Renew your Friends membership Aug. 3rd and treat yo shelves to some new-to-you books.


Renew your Friends of the Library Membership (or join if you haven’t already) and enjoy Buy One, Get One on Saturday, August 3 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the bookroom at Sunset Center. The Book Room is located at Sunset Center off 10th Avenue between Mission and San Carlos Streets.

The last in our music series for Summer Reading - Big thanks to Casey Frazier and his band for putting on a rockin' concert at the Harrison Library!

After a busy Summer Reading program the Kid's Library staff will be taking a break from programs in the month of August. They will be back in September with a lot of fun things to do!


The library will be open so come by and check out books and say Hi.

Car Week Events in Carmel-by-the-Sea

This year Car Week extends from Friday, August 9 through Sunday, August 18. The Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau has created a guide and interactive map of all Car Week events, road closures, etc, useful for everyone looking to attend the events or avoid traffic impacts. 

The City of Carmel will be hosting four events during the week:


  • CONCOURS FOR A CAUSE, Tuesday, August 13 | 10am-2pm. Ocean Avenue between Junipero to Lincoln Streets. Discover a vintage voyage of classic cars paired with international cuisine, cultural celebrations, and local artists for an epic experience.


  • ASTONS ON THE AVENUE, Wednesday, August 14 | 10am-4pm.Ocean Avenue between Monte Verde and Lincoln Streets. This event showcases a stunning lineup of locally owned Aston Martins, celebrating the legacy of craftsmanship and performance.


  • PRANCING PONIES ON OCEAN AVENUE, Thursday, August 15 | 10am-4pm Ocean Avenue between Junipero and Dolores Streets. The only all women’s car show where all car models can participate and is a fundraiser for Prancing Ponies Foundation “Creating Women Leaders One Girl at a Time.”


  • FERRARI OWNER CLUB – CONCOURSO CARMEL, Thursday, August 15 | 7am-4:30pm Ocean Avenue and Dolores Street. A festive atmosphere of Ferraris and Italian motorcycles on an expanded layout including four blocks with music, strolling mic, owner and guest interviews, plus awards presentations.
