On Friday, May 6th from 5 - 8pm the Artists' Studio in the Foothills (ASiF) invites the public to an opening reception featuring New Paintings by Nevada County artist Betsy Lombard. Lombard's works in oil and watercolor fill the walls of ASiF's main gallery reflecting influences of early to mid century American painters such as Selden Gile and Richard Diebenkorn and Russian and French expressionists such as Marc Chagall and Wassily Kandinsky. Betsy's bold decisive brush strokes are infused an impassioned sense of color and light. Sensations of warm and cool spill from her canvases as trickling streams, sun soaked hills and long blue winter shadows. Betsy Lombard's solo exhibition will hang through June 11th.

ASiF Gallery heads into new territory with this first in a series of solo exhibitions featuring established local and visiting artists. Since it's beginnings in 2008, the gallery has become known for its thematic group shows, exhibiting as many as 60 artists at a time.

"We're so excited about this shift," says owner, director Amanda Paoletti. "ASiF has done it's part for the greater part of eight years acting as a community gallery and art center, reflecting a cross section of the arts at all levels. We're ready to step into the work of a more serious gallery, promoting the established artists of our community in an effort to appeal to our newly developing international audience".

This international audience comes to ASiF through it's new Visiting Artist Workshop Program - Mountain Maid Workshops, which began this year featuring internationally acclaimed art instructors from around the globe. The new program began last month with an all day demonstration given by world renowned Australian Potter, Shannon Garson and will continuee into May and June with an Anthropomorphic Sculpture Workshop given by figurative ceramic sculptor Crystal Morey, and a Stamp Carving Workshop given by Geninne D. Zlatkis.
