Somewhere along the journey that is my life, I have become a searcher. I am on the lookout for the next thing that will get me on track, bring me back what I feel I might have lost along the way: energy, enthusiasm, patience, health, my memory - you name it. I listen to people like friends, relatives, the latest "expert" on social media who promote gingko biloba or meditation or time alone in the woods - probably all great suggestions. I have tried a gratitude journal but couldn't make it a habit. I have started to use 3 different programs for meditation and not stuck with them. I had a gym membership for 3 years but realized I was only going there to chat with my new friends.
A few years ago, Greg introduced to me to concept of a daily "power hour." We were going to wake up an hour earlier and then do 3 things for about 20 minutes each - 3 things that we felt would get us started on the right foot every day. I chose to practice music for 20 minutes, do some simple stretching exercise for 20 minutes and to start each morning with 20 minutes of prayer.
I have to tell you, it felt pretty good to take that time and intentionally sit with Jesus every morning. I looked forward to waking up and I felt more spiritually connected through the day. But, somehow, I let it slip away for reasons that I cannot even recall, though I am sure they seemed logical at the time.
I think it is time to pick it up again. To spend time with my instrument (as soon as it comes back from being repaired); to spend time taking care of my physical self; and to spend time sitting with Jesus.
I will let you know how I am doing and, if you want to give the "hour of power" a try, you can let me know if you are enjoying it, too. Perhaps we can keep each other accountable and we can work on our spiritual connection together.
Shalom, Rev Kathi
