Dear Harkham GAON Families,

To those of you who were able to attend, thank you for coming to our Back to School Event!  Before bidding you a gentle take off into the new year, I would like to share our news for the past and coming week.

We are pleased to be able to announce that our Hot Lunch Program will be starting next week.  Kosher lunches can now be ordered on a  weekly basis, for the following week using this: Hot Lunch Program Order Form, which will also be featured on our website.

The first lunches will be delivered starting Tuesday, September 19, 2023, with a deadline for ordering by Sunday at midnight (please see our website for more details about this program).

Students will still be expected to bring their own lunches on Mondays, and Fridays continue to be "Bagel Fridays," sponsored by our PTA.

Please also be reminded that students are not allowed to leave campus for lunch, nor order food to campus from outside sources.

Thank you to those who have completed our Cell Phone Usage Survey.  As promised, I would like to share the results. Thus far,  we have only received a handful of responses.  If you have not yet responded, please do so here: Cell Phone Survey. Of the responses we have received, families seem overwhelmingly in favor of our current flex policy.  Please be advised, however, that we continue to battle cell phone misuse, which raises academic, social and safety concerns. At this time, we will continue with our liberal policy of allowing phones during the school day, but misused phones will be subject to confiscation.  Again, we would like to ask our families to not just support us, but also join us in this effort.

Just a reminder that we will be off this Friday, September 15th, for Rosh Hashana. As you have already been informed, Monday, the Fast of Gedalia, will be a minimum day, with school ending at 12:15pm.  While we have your attention, the following Tuesday, September 26, 2023 (the day after Yom Kippur), will be a late start day, at 9:15am. Erev Sukkot will then begin after school lets out on the 29th, and school will resume again with our regular schedule on Tuesday, October 10th.

Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year 5784!

Shana Tovah,

Ruth Morris
