Friday Ministry Spotlight: Thanksgiving Outreach
This week, we have been joyfully distributing over 200 gift bags from the church to families in our community who are facing financial challenges this Thanksgiving season. These gift bags, joyfully packaged by our youth (pictured above), are filled with a gift card for food, a children's book about Jesus, a hand-crafted ornament (also pictured above) from our Gracefully Made crafting group, and an invitation to come and experience the love and fellowship of Jesus with our congregation.
Each gift bag carries a powerful message: "You are loved by God and by Perdido Bay Methodist Church." Through our 10 Partner in Education schools, we identified families who would greatly benefit from this support. One school shared heartfelt gratitude, recognizing the way our church ensures that we do "every possible thing to make sure that children are fed." For many, this gift is a lifeline, making it possible to provide a meaningful Thanksgiving meal for their families. We heard from one mom that she would've been unable to provide a special meal had it not been for our church’s generosity.
As we witness the impact of this outreach, we are reminded of the true spirit of Thanksgiving—the love, compassion, and hope that flow from God and through our church to those who need it most. This outreach opportunity is possible because of our Mission Board's allocation of funds raised through The Redemption Store. Whether you are a volunteer at the store or a faithful giver, you are the reason we continue daily to be the heart of the community.
As we consider the long-term blessing God works through opportunities like this, our own community missionary, Vivian Johns, came to our church in need over 30 years ago during the holiday season. The outpouring of generosity and love of this church led her to find and know Jesus Christ. To this day, she spends her life sharing Christ’s love with others. This Thanksgiving, we pray that others will know and experience the care of Jesus through Perdido Bay Methodist Church!
