Young Women’s Bible Study meets weekly during the school year and consists of a wide age-range. Childcare is provided, which makes it more convenient and accessible for women with young children or homeschooled elementary kids. Many who come have children who attend our weekday preschool, making it an excellent way to connect preschool families to the opportunities that our church has to offer. Additionally, some women join us for Bible Study and are members of other area churches, which we welcome as well! The group is ever-changing, as many are military and only here for a short while.
Each week they gather for breakfast, coffee, prayer, and studying/discussing what we’ve been reading. Our current study is “A Woman After God’s Own Heart” by Beth Moore. Numerous books and topics have been covered over the last 8 years which have enriched lives and brought about immense spiritual growth. The current study in particular has received such encouraging feedback as many have experienced a greater love for God and hunger for His word. In fact, so many have been attending this semester, that they outgrew their room and had to move to a larger space!
This week we said goodbye to Lori Gerritsen, who has been leading Young Women’s Bible Study since 2017. Jim and Lori are moving to Arkansas, as their year-long process of building a home is near completion. They’ll live closer to family and have the opportunity to spend more time with their growing family (grandchildren!).
Lori’s eyes light up when she talks about God’s word and she has an amazing gift to present the Living Word of God in a way that makes others want to know Him more! It’s obvious that teaching the Bible is her passion and she puts much preparation into each week’s lesson. She has become like a spiritual mother and mentor to many, offering advice and hope through the sometimes-difficult years of navigating the unique challenges of motherhood/womanhood! She is warm, welcoming, funny, and real!
Recently, when asked to remark on the highlights of being a teacher, Lori replied “It is a distinct honor and privilege to serve a church that has so many families moving in and out from Pensacola due to the Navy. It is also a huge responsibility to teach scripture to these families because they will leave us and go to other communities and spread the gospel there. We have an opportunity to reach all over America through teaching one family at a time. The ripple effects are startling and God-given. I believe most of my ladies immediately get plugged into a Bible Study at their new church- and many of mine have begun teaching their own Bible studies. It is a rare opportunity to spread the gospel to the far reaches of our country, and beyond into international churches as well.”
Lori, you will be greatly missed! We appreciate you and your invaluable contribution to the spiritual development of countless women. We are excited to welcome Alyse Huffman and Dominique Pfizenmaier as our new Young Women’s Bible Study facilitators!
If you’d like to know more about the group, contact the church office to get involved! They meet during the school year each Tuesday at 9:00am in the Activities Center.
