Sheriff Lee Cone is proud to announce a grant award of $17,500 to purchase new bullet proof vests for all certified officers through the US Department of Justice Office of Justice Programs (OJP).

This is the first time in the history of the Ben Hill County Sheriff's Office that we have been able to provide stab proof vests to all of our jail officers as well as new vests for all of our law enfor
cement employees at the SO," Sheriff Cone stated when the award was announced.

The grant has a fifty percent match which means that SPLOST funds earmarked for county law enforcement will be used for the remaining $17,500. Each employee of the sheriff's office was uniquely fitted for their own individual vest by Point Blank Body Armor representatives. The Sheriff's Office has a mandatory wear policy to help assure the highest level of protection for its officers.
