REV. DON HANSHEW, SENIOR PASTOR

REV. CHASE CRICKENBERGER, ASSOCIATE PASTOR

Hey Church Family,

I had a blast this past Sunday! It was so much fun to spend time preaching with my friend Rev. Wallis Brown. His wisdom, faithfulness, and enthusiasm for Christ have been a gift to me since I met him. Judging by the many comments, emails, and text messages, I get the sense that Sunday was meaningful to many of you as well. One person creatively put it this way. “I think my lights have been on low beam. I feel ready to turn on the high beams now.”

And how about the choir, solo music, and The Journey band?! We are blessed with such gifted folks who passionately allow their gifts to give praise to God. Though Who we worship remains constant, it is important for us to be a church which embraces multiple expressions of worship style.

Having a traditional service and a contemporary service in the same building is an expression of theology to our community about how we want to embrace the diverse ways God can be experienced.

We will worship again as One Church on December 24 and 31. It is a blessing to worship together with both Traditional and Contemporary elements!

You hear me say this frequently but let me repeat myself. I love being one of your pastors! Our congregation is such a beautiful group of people who want to do good and holy work for the community, who have a deep hunger for personal faith, and are willing to experiment with new ways of doing ministry for the sake of the Gospel. Praise be to God!

NOTABLE NEEDS

WAYS TO SERVE

Our neighbors in the park will be facing cold and wet fall and winter nights soon. Can you imagine sleeping in the cold? We hope to give them a little warmth with waterproof below freezing rated sleeping bags. We want to collect 30 of these sleeping bags and your Sunday school class, small group or you as an individual can help.

Order sleeping bags here and have them shipped to 212 Hotel Rd Knoxville Tn 37918. Or you can write a check to the church for $49, and put "sleeping bags" in memo line and we will purchase the sleeping bag for you. Two of our church members have volunteered to deliver the sleeping bags to our park neighbors. Wow! Such a worthy cause!

Blessing Box needs:

  • Water
  • Juice boxes
  • Chunky soups
  • Fruit cups
  • Peanut butter
  • Microwaveable Mac and cheese
  • Tuna pouches
  • Sanitary pads

The blessing box continues to make a difference in our faith community and in Fountain City. Please help us keep it stocked so we are always ready to help.

KARM Coats for the Cold

For 38 years, KARM has partnered to collect warm winter coats for those less fortunate, ensuring they are adequately protected from the cold weather. As we approach the colder months, the importance of this campaign cannot be overstated. Many within our community struggle to afford warm clothing, making this initiative critical to their well-being.

On October 16, winter coat collection will begin at all locations of KARM Stores and Prestige Cleaners. Please take your coat donations to a KARM Stores location and mention that you are from FCUMC. We will receive coat tickets from KARM based on our donations and beginning November 13, customers with a Coats for the Cold ticket can "purchase" a coat at a KARM Stores location. For more information, please check out KARM's Coats for the Cold webpage.

Registration for our Middle School fall retreat will open on October 1. We will visit Camp Bays Mountain on November 3-5. This will be a fantastic time for our students to grow together and build memories that will last a lifetime. We can't wait to see how God uses our time together and the stories we will tell upon our return.

Another opportunity for our students to grow together is on Sunday afternoons and evenings. We currently offer a Middle School Bible Study in the Net room from 4-5:30 p.m. on Sundays. For high schoolers, we continue to meet at the Castleberry's house from 6:30-8 p.m. for a Bible Study and snacks.
