REV. RACHEL COLLINS, PASTOR OF DISCIPLESHIP

As an agrarian culture, as the days begin to shorten and our outdoor tasks came to somewhat of a close, the focus turns to our family, our faith community, and our homes. Even with few of us here at FCUMC working the land as a career, those same feels are imbedded in our hearts. A cozy throw, pumpkin selections, Halloween costume choices, a PSL...all these things appeal to our senses. With that drawing in, that nesting for winter, consider becoming comfortable having conversation with God. Surely, that is sometimes awkward. God knows us for who we truly are at our most vulnerable. The best news, however, is that God always loves you unconditionally. God does not judge how long it has been since you sat on the porch and had a long chat with Him. God does care that you have that chat.
On September 29, you are especially invited to be a part of worship as we celebrate that invitation to talk freely, openly, honestly, with the God of Creation. In multiple ways, tactile, sensory, active listening, together as a faith community, and individually (mentally back on that porch) we will encounter conversation with God. Consider that opportunity, I hope to see you there!
An important event in the life of the faith community is choosing where you are able to give back in 2025. Folks will ask you if you will prayerfully consider saying “yes” to an opportunity. How to know where you fit in? If you are a total introvert and would cringe at the thought of leading a small group, then FCUMC needs to know. If you love elementary aged children, and would feel comfortable leading them through hands-on time of learning or in praise through music, it helps to know. What if you want to help somehow, but don’t really know where that would be? The answers will come to help both you and lay leadership figure it out through the Servant Gift Inventory. You can fill one out here or in multiple sites in the building. If you are most comfortable using a paper version, those will be available the next couple of Sundays in the Narthex. But please, fill one out. You will learn something about yourself and we will be better informed about your gifts and desires. If you can do it by this Sunday, it would be much appreciated!
Happy Early Leaf Peeping,
Rev. Rachel

Our Church Picnic Has Been Rescheduled!
Due to the potential for rainy weather, we have rescheduled the church picnic for Sunday, September 22. Everything else remains the same!
We will gather at the Iglehart farm (6161 Edmondson Lane) at 4:30 p.m. and our meal is at 5:30 p.m. There will be games, fellowship and a delicious barbecue meal!
Please bring a side dish or dessert to share. Doug Shipman and his crew will provide the barbecue. Make sure to bring some lawn chairs or a picnic blanket and any outdoor games you want to play. We will have an inflatable too! As always, the picnic is free for our church family to enjoy, but if you’d like to donate to help offset the cost, we won’t say no!

Helping Mamas Knoxville Diaper Drive
The Sarah Circle of FCUMC’s United Women in Faith is sponsoring a church-wide diaper drive to benefit Helping Mamas Knoxville during the month of September. Helping Mamas Knoxville works with area agencies in East Tennessee to distribute baby supplies to low-income families.
You can purchase diapers of any size, bring them to the church, and someone from the Sarah Circle will deliver them to Helping Mamas. There will be a bin marked “Helping Mamas” across from the Gym in which to put the diapers. Or you can order on their Gooddler wish list page and items will be delivered directly to Helping Mamas Knoxville. We invite our entire congregation to contribute to this worthy cause!

Great things are happening in Fountain Kids this year on Sunday and Wednesday nights. Kids are learning and loving it! | |
We are blessed to have amazing folks investing their time and unique talents such as science, storytelling, magic and drama into our Fountain Kids Ministry. We plant seeds into these beautiful children.
Sometimes it is years before we see the growth and fruit. However, this past Wednesday night, I along with our other leaders was thrilled! Our lesson on Nehemiah and the rebuilding of the Jerusalem wall was a special blessing when our 4th and 5th graders knew not only the story but insights. They could have taught the class to the K-3 kiddos. Some great fruit!
Last fall we did four sessions on Nehemiah. We dug in. This year he pops up again with an overview in our fall curriculum. Great job 4th and 5th graders!
