I'm New

REV. DON HANSHEW, SENIOR PASTOR

REV. RACHEL COLLINS, PASTOR OF DISCIPLESHIP

Exciting things are happening at FCUMC as we step into 2025 with a renewed focus on prayer! On Sunday we launched a year-long initiative to pray together for children, youth, and young adults. Each time you enter the building or attend a service, you’ll be offered a prayer card with a special prayer that we’re all invited to share throughout the year. This prayer hones in on children, youth, and young adults.

This focus on prayer extends far beyond this initiative. Prayer will be a central part of our discipleship efforts in 2025, especially during the upcoming winter and spring semesters of Fountain City Fellowship (FCF). These semesters will center on the theme of expanding our faith through prayer, as we seek to align ourselves with what God envisions for FCUMC in this Bicentennial Celebration year.

Through sermons, FCF groups, and even Sunday school classes, we’ll explore diverse and meaningful ways to be in conversation with God. God is always present, waiting for us to reconnect, like an old friend with whom no time ever feels lost. Yet, it’s easy for us to become distracted or disengaged. That’s why we’ll focus on equipping one another with the tools to make prayer a consistent and enriching part of our faith walk.

Let’s start this new year by prioritizing conversation and listening time with God. I encourage you to explore the offerings at FCF this semester and discover how you can deepen your prayer life. Together, we’ll steep ourselves and our church in prayer, opening our hearts to God’s guidance and presence in this milestone year.

Fountain City Fellowship on Wednesday Nights

Resumes on January 15

Our 2025 Discipleship Winter Semester at Fountain City Fellowship (FCF) is almost here! During the winter and spring semesters, the common theme we will share is expanding our faith through prayer. As the church immerses itself in our Bicentennial Celebration, it is crucial that our faith community is connected with what God envisions for Fountain City UMC going forward into this milestone year.

The most effective way to do this is being in conversation with God. But how do we make that an

ongoing practice? Some of the ways in which you will explore that idea may be through sermons and FCF groups examining varied and effective ways to be in prayer. Even Sunday school classes will have an opportunity to delve into effective means of prayer.

Check out the available programming for Winter 2025 on our website. We look forward to a new year of fellowship on Wednesday nights!

SERVING OTHERS

Let's Un-Deck The Halls

Tuesday, January 7 9:30 a.m.

Calling all volunteers looking for fun and fellowship as we “un-deck” our tree-lined hallways.

Warming Center Update

As temperatures drop, the need for warmth and shelter grows critical for our unhoused neighbors. This Friday, January 3, and Saturday, January 4, our Warming Center will be open, providing a safe and welcoming space for those in need.

We can't do this important work alone—we need you. Volunteers are the heart of the Warming Center, helping to create an environment of care and compassion. From setting up the space to sharing a warm meal or simply offering a kind word, there are many ways to make a difference.

While we're currently scheduled only for January 3 and 4, the weather may call us to action again in the coming week. Signing up now ensures we’re ready to respond with open arms whenever the need arises.

Together, we can offer more than warmth—we can offer hope. Let’s show our unhoused neighbors that they are seen, valued, and loved.

Sign up today to be part of this vital ministry.

Discussion Group at St. Paul UMC

One Anothering: Choosing Each Other in a Politically Divided World

Thursdays, January 16-March 6 6:30-7:30 P.M.

Many of us are distressed by the divisive political climate in our country. It seems almost impossible to discuss politics in a way that brings understanding rather than division. One Anothering will challenge the conventional wisdom that says talking about politics will only drive us apart. This study casts a vision of a Christian community that chooses one another, even in challenging conversations about politics. This group is open to the community. If you would like to participate, please call the St. Paul Church office at 865-687-2952.
