Valleyview students are encouraged to participate in the "Picture This, Caption That!"  Photo Contest , sponsored by NJ Natural Gas.  The contest, which ends next week, promotes resource conservation and energy efficiency, in a creative and fun way.  Winning contestants will receive $500 and also win $1,000 for a school conservation project!  Students can find out more info through Valleyview's Science and STEM teachers.  Good luck!
This past Thursday evening, Valleyview's student musicians performed their first Chamber Music Concert! Under Ms. Berkowitz's direction, the concert featured soloists, small group and string ensembles, as well as the Jazz Band. Over a dozen numbers, ranging from Toto's Africa to Cielito Lindo showcased the dedication and hard work of all! Congratulations!
The TREX 500 Pound Plastic Recycling Challenge is underway at Valleyview!  Our partnership with Denville's Green Sustainability Committee allows us to raise awareness and keep plastic waste out of our landfills.  After just two weeks, Valleyview's students and staff have weighed  and donated nearly 35 pounds.  If your family would like to participate, first check out the  TREX Recycling Poster  and keep the helpful "stretch test" in mind--most of the accepted types of bags, etc. easily stretch rather than tear.  Please email  [email protected]  if you're interested in volunteering or have additional questions.
The springtime  Skype-a-Scientist matches have been announced!  This unique international program allows Valleyview students to engage in real-time discussions with scientists in a variety of fields.  As in past sessions, the line-up is impressive: Bioinformatic Oceanography, Coastal Wetlands Ecology, Turtles, and Behavioral Science/Psychology.  Valleyview is also grateful to volunteers in our community who have offered to speak with students about their professions in Geology, Engineering, Nature Photography and Botany.
Valleyview Sports Update
The boys' basketball team made up of 15 players comprised of 7th and 8th-grade boys showed enormous growth and success throughout the season. Despite playing a smaller line-up than almost every opponent, the boys used their heart, athleticism and superb 3-point shooting ability to finish the season with a winning record. The boys tallied a total of 114 3-pointers during their 16 game season. The teams final record was 9-7 and they lost in the semi-finals of the basketball tournament in group 3.  The players' enthusiasm positively represented their school and community. Both Coach King and the entire Valleyview community are proud of what the team was able to accomplish.

The Girls' Basketball finished with a record on 6 - 9.  The Girls raced out to a 3 - 1 start to the season and then ran into some difficult teams losing 6 games in a row.  The team played extremely hard and with a lot of heart, but unfortunately came up a few points short in the first round of the County Tournament.  The team grew a lot throughout the season and all of the players improved their game in one or more skills.  We are looking forward to the 6th and 7th graders coming back next year and working hard towards great season.

The Valleyview Wrestling team completed another successful season, which saw the team finish with a record of 7-4. Although it was considered by many to be a rebuilding year after graduating 14 starters from last year's team, they showed great enthusiasm and determination throughout the season. The team was led by captains Anthony Forte, Dom Dellemonache and Cole Newton, who served as great leaders and motivators for the younger wrestlers. The Viking Grapplers finished 5th (out of 15 teams) at the end of the year league tournament at Frelinghuysen Middle School. Individual place winners included:  Cole Newton and Nicky Vannatta (2nd place), Michael Villalobos (3rd place) and Dom Dellemonache, Gavin Gomes and Ryan Perno (4th place). The team included 34 wrestlers, 25 of which were in 6th and 7th grade. Aside from individual accomplishments and team goals, Coach Wade and Coach Dawes are most proud of the positive team culture, as well as the improvements and growth many of the 1st year wrestlers showed throughout the season.
