Feature: Parent-Teacher Communication
Open lines of communication and frequent correspondence between school and home are critical to your child's success. At Academy Hill we believe we are partners with our families as we seek to create the visionaries, innovators and leaders of tomorrow. New families will soon discover that our semi-annual Parent-Teacher Conferences provide families with ample time to discuss our students' academic and social-emotional progress. This fall, unfortunately, these comprehensive meetings will take place via Zoom, like so many of the meetings and appointments we keep at this time. We hope that the March meetings may pivot back to an in-person format, but decisions about the spring will be made after January 11.

Please note that there are no classes for students, either in person or online, during the October 26 and 27 conference days. Our teachers are committed to spending those days, in their entirety, with our families. Thank you for understanding our commitment to productive and efficient Parent-Teacher Conference experiences.

Should you need to contact your child's teacher outside of an assigned conference time, please continue to use our email system. You should expect a response from your child's teacher within 24 hours, although most teachers are able to reply more quickly. Please respect that our teachers are unavailable, except in the case of emergencies, on weekends. If you need an immediate response on a weekend, please send a note to Head of School, Melissa Earls.
Home Health Screening-App Now Available
We are pleased to announce that the long-awaited health screening application is now available. Please log on using the link below:

You must create an account using an email we have on file. All addresses are case-sensitive.

Please continue to call the absence line to confirm that your student will be out of school that day, as necessary.

All families will be required to utilize the screening tool as of Monday, October 19. The Re-Entry Plan has been updated to reflect the reporting requirement.

Below is the full list of symptoms for which parents should monitor their children, and staff should monitor themselves. If a student or staff presents with these symptoms, they must consult with a healthcare professional before returning to school.

❏ Cough (not due to other known cause, such as chronic cough)
❏ Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
❏ New loss of taste or smell
❏ Sore throat
❏ Headache when in combination with other symptoms
❏ Muscle aches or body aches
❏ Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea
❏ Fatigue, when in combination with other symptoms
❏ Nasal congestion or runny nose (not due to other known causes, such as allergies) when in combination with other symptoms
Leadership Level Challenge
Academy Hill recognizes families and friends who have donated $1,000 or more to our Annual Fund by including them as Leadership Level contributors. This year, one of our Leadership Level families has issued a special challenge to the rest of the community. If we are able to increase the number of Leadership Level donors by 50% or more, Jean Deliso and Lisa Doherty will contribute an additional $150 for every Leadership Level family beyond the number recognized last year. Thank you, Deliso Doherty family!

Last year, 18 families were recognized with Leadership Level status. If we have 27 Leadership Level donors this year, the Deliso Doherty family will gift us $150 for every Leadership Level donor over number 18! Please help us take advantage of this generous challenge!

Grandfriends Day Re-Imagined!
Like so many fall traditions here at Academy Hill, we find ourselves thinking of new ways to involve and celebrate our Grandfriends. If you have not been with us the first Friday in November, you may not recognize "Grandfriends Day," but here at AHS, this long-standing celebration is a highlight of our year. On a typical Grandfriends Day, we invite grandparents (or aunts, uncles or special friends) to join us for the morning. With the assistance of the Parent Association, we provide a yummy breakfast for our guests. After breakfast, Grandfriends join students for a typical morning here at the school. They attend classes and join in activities with their favorite little people. Grandfriends also enjoy a very special slideshow and presentation with our Head of School, Melissa Earls.

This year, we intend to send a memento of the moment to all Grandfriends. It will be personalized by your child, so it may also serve as a keepsake of this fall at Academy Hill. Please send us your Grandfriends' names and best mailing address before October 30. We will do the rest!

Send Grandfriends' contact information to Miss Kelli today!

And, like you, we hope to resume a more typical Grandfriends Day in 2021!
