Friday Folders for Lakeview, Riverview and Valleyview

Lakeview School

Valleyview School

Riverview School

Lakeview is proud to recognize all the students who performed in this year's Talent Show, Lakeview's Got Talent. The array of acts such as dance routines, comedy acts, piano/violin playing, singing and much more were absolutely amazing. Thank you to all who performed, Mrs. Brojan for unifying the event with her wonderful volunteers, and our supportive PTA who organized the event. The teachers shared in the spirit of the show with a cheer incorporating our Core Values, Perseverance, Respect, Integrity Diversity and Excellence and dancing to   Kate Perry's "Let Me Hear You Roar". Special thanks to Valleyview for allowing us to use their building.

The second marking period has brought a lot of activity to Lakeview's STEM Lab! Kindergarten has been busy investigating what weather is, what causes weather and have recently started learning all about different types of severe weather.  First grade finished up their studies on animal defenses by creating their own clay model of an animal and presented it to their classmates. First graders currently are learning about light in order to complete a challenge where they have to create a way to use light in order to communicate without saying a word!  Second grade is working on their spatial reasoning skills by using everyone's favorite toy, the Rubik's Cube! Second graders will work on solving math problems using the cube and also will be creating a mosaic picture out of Rubik's cubes. Third graders have just finished up learning about wind power by designing, constructing, and testing "sail cars" which, in this case, were little-wheeled carts with masts and sails that were powered by the moving air generated by fans. Students created some phenomenal designs and really learned what it was like to work a project through the engineer design process. Fourth graders currently are working on applying their understanding of electricity and circuits to creating paper circuit cards. Fourth graders are given supplies of LED lights, copper tape, and a coin cell battery to create a card that lights up. Finally, fifth graders are working on learning all that it takes to create with a 3D printer. Students are learning the foundational skills of 3D design by using the modeling software, Tinkercad.com, in order for them to produce some original designs.

Fifth grade Lions helped kick off our school-wide art program this month, and they got quite a treat! The "Let's Create Art Appreciation Program" began with students learning about the life and techniques of artist Vincent Van Gogh, known for his innovative painting techniques. Each 5th grader then had the chance to create their own masterpiece on a 9" x 12" vanilla cake, using a palette knife to "paint" with colored frosting. Fourth grade will follow with their study of sculptor, Louise Nevelson.

JUST A REMINDER:
Our Lakeview Community is participating in a service learning project in partnership with ProjectKIND! ProjectKIND has challenged us to "Pack a SACK".
ProjectKIND creates opportunities and builds support systems for those experiencing homelessness. They believe in strengthening our community through kindness and helping those who are in need to achieve their goals. ProjectKIND provides supports such as food, needed items and assistance that allow those experiencing homelessness to focus on their strengths and overcome their challenges.

The Read-a-Thon is under way. How can you and your student make a difference? READ, READ, READ! Students will have the opportunity to earn money through the Read a Thon. Your child will then be able to "purchase" the items here at Lakeview School to fill the SACKS.

If you or someone you know would like to make a monetary donation, please contact Ms. Warner [email protected] or Mrs. Hall [email protected] .

We thank you for all of your support and look forward to working with you and ProjectKind in helping reduce homelessness.
