This afternoon, 1,254 positive COVID-19 cases were reported, bringing the statewide total to 1,040,126. An additional 12 deaths were announced, bringing the statewide total to 25,147. 12,405,966 total vaccine doses have been administered, with 6,043,933 individuals who live, work, or study in the state now fully vaccinated.
The Governor reviewed the booster eligibility for those who received COVID-19 vaccinations. For recipients of Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, those 65 and older and 18-64 year olds with underlying conditions or who live/work in high risk settings are able to receive a booster 6 months after their second dose. For Johnson and Johnson recipients, all individuals over 18 may receive a booster 2 months after their initial dose. Those eligible for boosters may receive a shot different than the initial dosages. There are 1,739 distribution locations open across the State.
Governor Murphy announced on Wednesday 11 new in-school transmission outbreaks, with 137 cumulative outbreaks. The newest outbreaks have resulted in 49 student cases and 8 staff cases. A panel to the Food and Drug Administration recommended that the agency issue an emergency use authorization for the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in children ages 5 to 11 years old. The dose will contain one-third of the amount of active ingredient compared to the adult dose. Children would receive a second dose 21 days or more after their first shot.
The Department of Human Services is increasing the reimbursement rates through the State's Child Care Assistance Program for child care providers by an average of 25 percent, effective November 1st.
State Capitol Joint Management Commission
Decision on Entry Requirements
Please be advised that the State Capitol Joint Management Commission made a determination on requirements for entering the State House earlier today. Beginning December 1st, individuals who work or wish to visit the State House, including for committee meetings and hearings, will need to show proof of full vaccination or a negative COVID-19 Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) test result no more than three days old. The eight member body voted in favor of the decision, which allows some limited flexibility for members of the Legislature to be determined by the Speaker or Senate President of the official's respective chamber.
Individuals are also required to wear masks in the State House Complex and will be subject to temperature checks. Occupancy will also be limited as the Legislature resumes their session: a third of normal occupancy will be permitted to enter the chambers for voting sessions and every other seat will be reserved during committee meetings.
