Do You Support A Moratorium On Cruise Tourism In Rockland?
A petition has recently been submitted to the Rockland City Council “to regulate the entry of mega-cruise ships into our city by limiting the size and number of ships and the number of passengers who are permitted to use our public landing.” While not stated in the petition, most who spoke in support of this petition last Monday also verbally called for a ‘moratorium’ on all but the smallest cruise ship visits to Rockland.
The Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce has long been an advocate for cruise tourism as an enhancement to the overall tourism mix in our region. Regardless of your opinion, we want you to know that the City Council is currently considering the submitted petition and the request for a moratorium, and we encourage you to share your opinion on the matter.
The next meeting of the Rockland City Council is on Monday, May 14 at 6 pm.
Public comment is welcome at the beginning of the meeting. If you are unable to attend, you can

Prime Commercial Space available in Downtown Rockland
The Chamber is assisting the Maine Lighthouse Museum in seeking potential tenants to occupy currently under-utilized space on the top (street level) floor at One Park Drive in Rockland. The Museum is seeking to add one or more tenants to its space there, without changing the current footprint of the museum in the building. The Chamber has slightly reduced its back office space to reduce costs. Up to 2,500 square feet of space is potentially available to one or more tenants, and zoning there permits a variety of uses including office, retail, and dining options. Those seeking space smaller than this are also encouraged to inquire, as there is the potential for multiple tenants. Inquiries can be directed to Tom Peaco, Chamber Executive Director, at
