Supreme Court Nomination - YOUR help is critically needed!
President Trump will soon make a nomination for the Supreme Court. The announcement will likely be  Monday  night, and so, many faith communities are working together to organize calls to Senators. Indiana is playing a critical role in this nomination. Many justice issues that we as UUs and as a local congregation take a stand on come before the Supreme Court: reproductive rights, racial justice, LGBTQ+ equality and rights, the dignity and treatment of immigrants and refugees, our (mis-)treatment of the environment...and I could go on and on.
I'm writing to ask if you would make a call to your Senator's office TODAY (Friday) or MONDAY. After you make a call, could you share this call to action with as many people as you can?
You can reach Senator  Joe   Donnelly  at  (202) 224-4814 . Be polite to the gracious and probably overworked staff, let them know where you are from (so they know you are a constituent), and use 2-3 sentences to make a clear point. For example: "I've lived in Monroe County for X years and have been a member of my church there for Y years. Please ask the Senator to only consider and support nominees who __(fill in the blank with one or two of the issues you feel mostly strongly about)__." If you're looking for a fuller script, you can find more online, or contact Rev. Scott at mcneill@uubloomington.org .
