Our  Annual Congregational Meeting  is this Sunday, June 9, at  4 pm in the Meeting Room.  All members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Childcare provided. See below for more information!

Buy Grocery Cards on Sunday and Support the Church
Bloomingfoods, Lucky's and Fresh Thyme!
We have grocery gift cards for sale in the Commons every Sunday between services. The participating grocery stores send a percentage of your purchases back to the church to support our operating budget. We have gift cards for Fresh Thyme, Bloomingfoods, and Lucky's, and you can register your Kroger Plus card to request that 5% of your food purchase amounts be donated to the church by clicking  here Our Kroger organization ID number is EW763. We can earn at least $400 per quarter from Kroger!
UU Singles Game Night, First Friday of the month
Friday, June 7, 7-10 pm in Fellowship Hall
Tonight! Come as you are, bring a friend, and (optional) feel free to bring games and/or snacks to share as well.
Adopt-a-Stream Work Day at Bryan Park June 8, 10 am
This Saturday is the Families with Young Children monthly stream walk at Bryan Park. We will meet at 10 am at the main playground off Henderson. We will work on the stream for an hour, and then reconvene at the playground at 11 to play and picnic if you choose. Wear shoes/boots that can get wet, sunscreen, etc.

Join UUs at the Garden Walk!  Saturday, June 8, 10 am
Join the UU Gardeners at 10 am tomorrow morning to carpool and enjoy the Bloomington Garden Walk together. We will depart from 810 S. Jordan Ave. (the home of a congregant). Hospitality: Touchstones Along the Way

In this worship service we will continue to explore our theme of the month, Hospitality, utilizing Frank Ostaseski's book, "The Five Invitations: Discovering What Death Can Teach Us About Living." Also during the worship service we will hear from our 25% Plate Nominees for next fiscal year (Harmony School, Team First Book Monroe County, and Volunteers in Medicine).
For 9:15 am service attendees - Join the Early Risers Breakfast Club
Free simple breakfast foods (for example: fruit, oatmeal or bagels, etc.) in Fellowship Hall after first service.

Captioning of Services Not Available During June
Our congregation is setting up a program to provide live captioning during Sunday morning services for people using mobile devices. We are currently testing the system, and it will not be available again until July. For details on the program, please see the May 21 issue of The Prologue
This Week in Religious Exploration*:
  • Childcare will meet in Room 108 to share stories, play, and make new friends. 
  • (1st Service) Preschool - Adults are invited to join us in the kitchen to cook up some fun and make simple breakfast foods to share with all the early risers who come to 9:15 am service. 
  • (2nd Service) Preschool - Adults Spirit Play will meet in Room 103 and learn about how our congregation stood with our Muslim neighbors as they explore the story "We Respond to Hate."  They'll investigate what it means to live into our Red UU Promise: Respect All People. 
  • (2nd Service) Kindergarten-Adults will meet in Room 208 to tinker, explore, and create. This week we will have some projects that offer hospitality for bees, birds and butterflies. 

Middle School and High School Youth Groups are on hiatus for the summer but encouraged and welcome to join us in any of the above offerings!

*We use the term "Religious Exploration" for summer sessions and other special all-ages religious education Sundays.

Summer Religious Exploration
      Adults, YES! we are inviting you to participate as well, and you can choose the same activity or something different than a child or youth you brought with you. Religious Exploration is for everyone! Adults without children and youth, newcomers and visitors are all encouraged to attend. 
      NOTE: We do require that parents of kids in 6th grade and younger sign them in and sign them out of their class during the summer months.

Are you new here?  Take your "First Steps" this Sunday!
Join us to discuss the basics of Unitarian Universalism and this congregation, and watch a short video about Unitarian Universalism. This Sunday in Room 112, from 10:35-11:00 am and 12:35-1:00 pm (after each service). Free childcare is available in Room 108. Just stop in, no registration is required. This class was previously offered on the first Sunday of each month. Due to space limitations, it is now offered on the second Sunday of each month.  --Ann LeDuc, Connections Coordinator
UU Freethinkers Meet at 12:45 pm in Room 208
The UU Freethinkers discussion group will meet this Sunday at 12:45 pm in Room 208 for an open and non-structured discussion of issues of social, political, and theological/religious concern.

  • Harmony School - Funds raised from UU Bloomington would help make it possible for the school to educate and empower students from all backgrounds and incomes.
  • Team First Book of Monroe County - Funds from the 25% collection plate would be used primarily to fund preschool programs at Headstart, MCUM, and county Title I preschools because we believe that literacy begins at home.
  • Volunteers in Medicine - UUCB funds would be used to help Volunteers in Medicine continue to fund dentures - and support confident smiles, improved health, and enhanced life opportunities.
There is still time to make your pledge for the coming year (July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020)! Our budget to be approved on June 9 is set for $670,000 in pledges, and we are currently at $611,974 You can change the world! Help support your dynamic religious community!

A memorial service for Marion Sinclair, a long-time member of our congregation, will be held here on Wednesday, June 12 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Macklin will officiate.
Reverend McNeill Away Until July 1
Reverend McNeill will be away from the office May 23-June 30 for scheduled time off and attendance at UUA General Assembly at the end of June. 
He will return on July 1.
Children's Choir Schedule for June
Sunday, June 16: Rehearse, 10:30-11:00, Room 110.
Sunday, June 23: Sing for Sunday Summer Solstice Services; sing end of 1st service, start of 2nd. Children will meet in Room 110 at 9:45 for a quick run-through prior to singing at the end of the 1st service.
4th of July Parade Sign Making Party - All Ages Welcome
Thursday, June 13, 6:00 pm
Join the fun! Make the 4th of July Parade a huge success again this year! This Thursday, June 13, from 6 to 7:30 pm in room 208 we'll visit and eat pizza together while making signs for the 4th of July Parade. Our theme this year is our 7th Principle: Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part. Let Ann LeDuc, Connections Coordinator, know if you would like to eat pizza by emailing . Additional work night dates: Thursdays, June 20 and 27, 6 to 7:30 pm.
Third Sunday Social Justice Film Series
"Stories of Monroe" on June 16
The Racial Justice Task Force will host the Third Sunday Movie Night on June 16th at 5:00pm in Fellowship Hall. "Resilience: Stories of Monroe," by Gladys DeVane and Elizabeth Mitchell, is a moving history of African American life in Bloomington, Indiana, which was home to both abolitionists and slave catchers in the 19th century. The play was performed here in October 2018 and was very well-received. There will be an intermission with pizza. If you need childcare in order to attend, please request it by clicking here by June 9.

Livestream This Sunday's Service
If you can't physically make it to church this Sunday, we invite you to join us via the livestream on our website. At the church we also have screens set up in the nursery (Room 104) and in Fellowship Hall, if you need to leave the Meeting Room for any reason but still want to watch the service.
